A Week in Cancun

Beach days

I had to line up for this

Imagine this: It's so hot out that you just want to run into cool, fresh water.

Cancun is the exact place to do this. From sitting at the beach while being handed your drinks to being called Princesa and lying in your hammock letting the warm breeze float past you. Letting every ounce of stress leave your body.

A brief introduction to Cancun, Mexico:

Cancun is on the Yucatán Peninsula in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Looking out to the ocean its closest neighbor is Cuba. While on its land boarders the closest neighbors are Guatemala and Belize. Cancun gets a lot of tourists every year and it is no wonder why. With its beautiful beaches and palm trees to the historical sites that you can spend days at just one of them. It is almost difficult to imagine that just forty years ago it was a small fishing town, where barely anyone knew of its existence.

While we all know travelling abroad this year has been difficult, if not impossible. It does not stop us from making future travel plans away from the house and away from stress.

A few of my favorite activities that I did during my stay in Cancun were swimming with dolphins. This was an amazing experience, the dolphins were smart, friendly, and very happy. Now what really surprised me was seeing the millions of iguanas. There were everywhere. Some people were scared of them but they usually ignore you and do their own thing such as sunbathing. Of course, I can’t not include going on tours to see more of the ancient civilization of Mexico such as Tulum. There are tours for many different places so it may be hard to pick just a few.

A word of warning, during the summer months it can get extremely hot so it is important to come prepared and stay hydrated so you can still live your trip to the fullest. Especially, if you are travelling inland for your activities.

My favorite part was looking down over my balcony and seeing the volleyball court on the beach next to the beautiful ocean while watching the sunset. As the sun finally goes down the parties get started "Whoop whoop". Cancun can be a huge party destination for many travelers and has a lot to pick and choose from. There is one party ship in particular that would always get my attention. Every night it would sail on the crystal-clear water and while it could be from the fireworks or the pirate yelling "CHUG, CHUG, CHUG" while the party goes on, it was music to my ears as i drifted off to sleep. I noticed it gets a lot of attention.

In Cancun and outside of Cancun there is something for everyone. From the quietness of dolphin swimming, seeing historic sites, to even having an eventful night of partying.

Yes, it is a safe place for a family holiday. They have aquariums, snorkeling, and even horse back riding.

A few things that are important to know:

1. It would make your trip a lot easier if you know at least basic Spanish. Such as, knowing the numbers and basic conversation.

2. The currency is Mexican Peso.

3. Make sure you carry small change in your bag instead of large money.

4. Be cautious when swimming in the ocean for dangerous currents.

Next time I am in Cancun I am definitely going to make sure I go on the speedboat and snorkeling tour where I can enjoy the area and get to go swimming.

Tulum

Whether it is a solo travel, family travel, or even travelling with your significant other, Cancun is the perfect place.

Stay safe and enjoy your travels.
