Even though we like going on vacations, we are usually stressed out a lot because it happens to forget something at home, eat at restaurants with poor food, or get lost in new cities.

In this article, I will provide you with a small list of tips that can help you avoid headaches on vacation.

Navigation apps:

Some special apps can provide the most important tourist attractions in the city and can offer you guidance to get there. Or you can use Google Maps, but a good thing would be to download the maps and use the navigation software offline.

If you go to the seaside in Greece, you can manage to travel without a navigation app, but you couldn't do that in a crowded city like London, for example.

Eat only at crowded restaurants:

Because you are in a new place and don't know good restaurants, a smart piece of advice would be to eat only in crowded places. If you see a restaurant half empty and one with only three seats available, the crowded one most likely has better food.

Or, if you have time and the means to do so, read the reviews about those places.

Use multiple sites when shopping for flight prices:

Study and compare offers. If you want to get cheaper tickets, you have to perform an online booking in advance. Visit 5 or more sites and study the promotional offers. You may find big discounts in the extra season.

Try to learn a few important words in the country's language:

Even though you will most likely speak in English, it is important to know a few words in the local language. You can use Duolingo to learn a bit or use translation apps if you need to communicate with a local that does not speak English.

Pack light and well:

It is important to pack your baggage light and well. Use only a single bag to save time and money, put shampoo and liquid soap in small bottles, and roll the cloth pieces in the bag, to use the space more efficiently.

I know, you would like to take 3 pairs of shoes, 5 shirts, 6 blue jeans, just in case, but this is not a good vacation habit. Big luggage will not permit you to move fast and easily between locations and make your flight tickets more expensive.

Take gadgets with you, to immortalize moments and to be prepared:

It is important to have a power bank with you, in case you need more battery juice for your phone. Also, an extra memory card will permit you to take more photos and video recordings.

Book the room for one night only:

Booking the room for only one night will permit you to switch hotels easier if you are not happy with the conditions provided. You may get a refund from the hotel manager, but most likely you will have to argue with him for this.

Bring an additional debit and credit card with you:

Accidents happen. It's usually a good idea to carry a backup card in case you're robbed or misplace one. You don't want to be stranded in a new location without access to your money.

I once had a card cloned and placed under lock and key. I was unable to utilize it for the remainder of my journey. I was overjoyed that I had an extra, unlike my friend, who didn't and was often borrowing money from me!

Make additional copies of your passport and other key papers as follows:

Don't forget to send yourself a copy as well. You never know when you'll need some form of documents and won't want to bring your original with you. A copy of your passport will also come in useful if your passport is stolen and you need to file a police report.
