With international travel gearing up again after the globe being in isolation from the pandemic, you may look for somewhere to travel to, if you can afford international travel.

Before I reveal the dangerous holiday destinations, I would like to state upfront that there are many others that are similar if not worse, this list is not exhaustive, it was just that some of these destinations I would not have thought would make it to a list of dangerous holiday destinations. So I found this interesting, I hope you do too.

The Golden State (California)

This one is surprising, but it makes the list, let me be more specific Death Valley California. If you would like to roast yourself and like a challenge then why not holiday here. Temperatures can reach 134 Fahrenheit (57 Celsius). Furnace Creek and Death valley seem like the right names for where temperatures may just cook us a little medium rare.

This destination is still popular for tourists, and it is probably a place I would like to see, but being someone who like to prepare, I would like to train myself to acclimatise prior to going there.

The danger is when people decide to move away from the known roads and decide to go trail blazing, you wouldn’t want to get lost in that heat, the name given speaks volumes.

Don’t desert me in the desert….

Let’s head over to Africa, North East, Ethiopia and Eritrea, actually between the two countries we find the Danakil desert, where the heat is also extreme, not as hot as Death Valley the desert reaches around 131 Fahrenheit (55 Celsius) so still not to be messed with, slightly less cooked but still cooked.

So we have Death Valley and Danakil, emphasis on the death part and the ‘kil’ part, yes ok, I know I didn’t spell ‘kill’ correctly, just drawing some creative connections here, Yes okay it’s silly. Moving on…

Not only the high temperature, there are also lakes of acid and poisonous gas, anything deadly the US can serve up, Africa can too. Sounds absolutely lovely…. Not!

Despite this, the Danakil desert just like Death Valley is still a popular tourist destination.

Asian Persuasion

Heading into Asia, let’s not forget Mt Everest, this is a ‘no brainer,’ of danger. If you really want to challenge yourself against the elements, then this is the place to be. While climbing the mountain you may even see people frozen in time.. On the way up the mountain, people who have perished attempting the summit are evidence of the peril that could possible befall you.

Freezing conditions and fatal falls and low oxygen levels are part of the package, wow what relaxing fun… No thanks.

Tequila!

Let’s go from the freezing cold and frostbite to the sunny and beautiful beaches and crystal clear blue waters of Acapulco, Mexico. Years ago renowned as a tourist destination for people from the USA and Europe, now crime, including homicides, has had an impact, if you enjoy living on the edge and testing your street survival skills, then welcome to Acapulco… Bullet proof jackets not supplied…

I don’t like cricket; I love it…

Let’s head over to Jamaica mon! Kingston the home of the legendary Bob Marley. ‘Could you be loved’ or ‘the sun is shining’ maybe something you will say (titles of Bob Marley songs) when you are being mugged in Kingston in broad daylight, unless you remain in designated resort areas and enjoy the beaches, venturing out may not be what you want as a holiday, unless you enjoy living on the edge…

Kings of Soccer and Carnival

What about a trip down south from Jamaica to another beach paradise, Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Carnival time… Sounds great until you factor in that you may just end up a victim of crime, because of high unemployment, coupled with life being rather cheap in these conditions. Having grown up in a crime infested city this would not be somewhere I would like to holiday, perhaps you have a different experience of Rio?

‘Top o’ the mornin to ya’

Let’s cool down quite a lot and look for scenic beauty, now this is a place I would love to see, and I think it is as dangerous as you make it. The cliffs of Moher in Ireland. This danger only exists if you decide to get too close to the edge, like that donkey in Shrek ‘I’m a donkey on the edge’. If he was on the edge of these cliffs, he might have been a donkey no more.

The images at the top of this article is a picture of the cliffs of Moher

The Sunshine State

Let’s warm up again and travel back to the USA. New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Beautiful beaches and surfing, except for the sharks that lurk beneath the waves, just waiting for a tasty surfer or two.. if you avoid the ocean, then you have nothing to worry about.

Well, the last two, namely Moher Ireland and Smyrna Beach Florida, and possibly Death Valley too, I would not take off my destination list, but the rest would take a lot of convincing and I would probably rather steer clear of them, There are more relaxed destinations to holiday. Let me know what you think?
