1. DAL LAKE

Srinagar, also known as the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India, is widely popular for the scenic views of its Dal lake. Dal lake is also known as the 'Lake of Flowers', 'Srinagar's Jewel' and 'Jewel in the crown of Kashmir' because of the amazing scenery all around the place. Visitors enjoy the sights by travelling on houseboats or colourful shikaras also known as the 'Gondola of Kashmir'. The lake is believed to be the most visited place by tourists from other Indian states as well as foreign countries. Other places to visit near Dal lake are the Mughal gardens like the Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh, the Nigeen lake, the Hari Parbat, the Shankaracharya temple, the Hazratbal Shrine, the Mazar-e-Shura cemetery and the Chashme Shahi.

2. KHAJJIAR

My personal favourite - Khajjiar is located in the Chamba district (my birthplace!), Himachal Pradesh. It's a hill station covered with grasses and surrounded by forests and meadows. Khajjiar is known as the 'Mini Switzerland of India', which means it's 'India's version of Switzerland'! Here you will find a rare combination of forests, lakes and pastures.

The wide field area is the most suitable picnic place and people enjoy walking around the lake, horse riding, paragliding and other fascinating activities for adventure lovers. Tourists also love to visit the huge Hanuman statue, Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary, Khajjiar lake, Dauladhar mountains and the Khajji Nag Temple.

3. SPITI VALLEY

A cold desert mountain valley located in the Himalayas (Himachal Pradesh, India)- the Spiti Valley. The pleasing valley lies between the parts of Tibet and India and is hence called 'Spiti' meaning 'the middle land'. As the valley is surrounded by the regions of Tibet and Ladakh, here the locals follow Vajrayana Buddhism (similar to their neighbours). The valley has also been the centre of research for Buddhists. The scenic view of the valley has been the location of cinematography for some Indian films like Highway, Paap and Milarepa. Some delightful places to visit here are Chicham bridge, Hikkim village, Mud village, Tabo caves, Key Monastery and Pin Valley National Park.

4. LAKE PICHOLA IN UDAIPUR

Lake Pichola is located in Udaipur city (Rajasthan)- the lake city of India. This freshwater lake was built artificially for meeting the drinking water and irrigation needs, in 1362AD. The lake is named after the name of Picholi village in its neighbourhood. Jag Mandir, Jag Niwas, Arsi Vilas and the Mohan Mandir are the four islands present in the lake. The islands have been built with beautiful palaces and provide mesmerizing views of the lake. There is a palace built in the heart of the lake called the -' Lake Palace' (Heritage Palace hotel). The beauty of the palace is compared with the Taj Mahal (Fort in Agra, India; one of the Seven Wonders of World). You must visit once Lake Pichola if you are planning your next vacation in Rajasthan!

5. MUNNAR

Munnar is a popular honeymoon destination for newlywed couples. It's a hill station located in the Idukki district of Kerala state in India. The charming view and the beautiful hills also made it popular as the 'Kashmir of South India' among the visitors.

Munnar is famous for its everlasting tea plantations. The dense vegetation and gripping waterfalls are the other tourist attractions in Munnar. The word Munnar means 'three rivers' and is called so because of the convergence of the Nallathanni, Kundali and Mudhirapuzha rivers in the region. The town is also known as the protected area for several endemic flora and fauna species like the Nilgiri wood-pigeon, the gaur, the Nilgiri langur, Nilgiri Thar, the grizzled giant squirrel, the neelakurinji flowers and the sambar.

6. GURUDONGMAR LAKE

Just look at those shiny water drops! Doesn't it seem like pearls are shining under the water in the sunshine? It's the water of the Gurudongmar Lake located in the Indian state of Sikkim. According to the government of Sikkim, the lake is at an elevation of 5,430 m and this makes it one of the highest lakes in the country, India. The local population follow the cultures of Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism.

Visitors also have a sight of various astounding wildlife species like the Blue sheep, Yaks and many more. Nearby villages Lachen and Lachung and the Yumthang valley have stunning views to admire!
