As more and more people get vaccinated, lockdown restrictions ease and borders open up, it looks like we’re returning to a semblance of normalcy - whatever that may be! But the most exciting change is the possibility of international travel. Choosing the Maldives as your next holiday destination is perhaps the most logical explanation as you get to enjoy luxury hotels set on private islands, glorious weather, exciting (and relaxing) activities, delicious food, and unparalleled seclusion. If you’re planning your vacation to these paradise isles, here are five things you should know before travelling to the Maldives in 2021.

1. Stay Up to Date with the Travel Guidelines

The Maldives has been very clear with their travel guidelines to ensure the safety of visitors to the country and residents. Here are a few things that will make your journey as hassle-free as possible.

  • There is NO mandatory quarantine on arrival to the Maldives. However, non-tourists travelling to the local/inhabited islands are required to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival at the island.
  • All arrivals, apart from Maldivian citizens, are required to present a certificate of a negative PCR test taken within 96 hours before departure. However, travellers showing flu-like symptoms may be required to take a PCR test on arrival.
  • Along with a negative PCR test, travellers must also fill out the Traveller Health Declaration Form, which must be filled out and submitted online 24 hours before departure to the Maldives.

2. Choose a Resort Close to the Airport

As lovely as it is going on holiday, travelling, in general, can be quite stressful, especially during these unpredictable times. To reduce some of the stress and make things a little easier, we suggest you choose a resort that is not too far away from Male. Hotels like Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives are only a short speedboat ride away from the airport, thus you don’t have to spend too much time at the airport. As soon as you go through immigration and get your luggage, you will be picked up from the arrival terminal and immediately be escorted to a speedboat that will be waiting for you.

3. Consider Getting Travel Insurance

Although travel insurance can be quite tricky to get during this time, the Allied Insurance company has partnered with the Maldivian Government and offers a COVID-19 insurance plan. The company has several packages on offer which you can purchase before your journey, and this will allow you to enjoy your holiday without any worries.

4. Be Respectful of Others at the Resort

When you’re on holiday it is natural to forget about the rules of everyday life. However, during these unprecedented times, it is imperative that you still adhere to all the regulations set in place to ensure the safety of yourself and the people around you. When you’re in public spaces (eg. restaurants, kids’ centres) be sure you’re wearing your mask. Also, when on the resort you should still practice social distancing and sanitize your hands before and after touching public surfaces.

5. Stay at an Established Resort that is Experienced in Guest Care

Before 2020, the perfect holiday destination would be a place with luxurious rooms, stunning scenery and exciting activities. However, over the past year, a lot has changed and now when choosing a hotel you must also look at their cancellation and healthcare policies. Staying at a well-established hotel like Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives is an excellent option as they have adapted to the times and now have a luxurious and safe resort that is waiting for you.
