There are a lot of states in the south worth visiting, Alabama being one of the best for many reasons. It has culture, food, history, views and more southern charm than you can handle. Here are some reasons you should make Alabama a part of your next road trip!

The Sport Opportunities in Alabama

Alabama lacks a professional football and basketball team, but makes up for it in other ways. For example, Alabama is full of beautiful golf courses, Nascar races and fishing spots. If you are a fan of any of these sports, Alabama might be your dream vacation. Your first priority should be to check out the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. It is a collection of 426 championship holes on 26 different golf courses on 11 different sites throughout the state of Alabama. Sounds like a bucket list activity for you golf fanatics out there. This is a great way to explore the entire state as well!

Inspiring Scenery

Natural beauty is not something that Alabama lacks. There are countless plantations and pieces of farmland scattered around that state that make road trips a scenic breeze. You will not neglect to experience the beauty of the mountains in the north or the gulf shores part of Alabama. This state is full of natural beauty and won’t disappoint—make sure to bring your camera.

Educational Opportunities and History

If you are interested in history, you need to visit Monroeville, AL. It is considered the literary capital of the state! The writers Harper Lee and Truman Capote are both from this town. This place essentially inspired How to Kill a Mockingbird, which makes it entirely worth your time if you are a fan of classic literature.

Another educational and historical location is the Ave Maria Grotto in Cullman. This is a four acre park that has 125 miniature replicas of some of the most famous shrines and historic buildings. This is a great place to get a whole lot of culture all at once. These miniature replicas were built by a monk named Brother Joseph.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is another spot in Alabama to check out while you are there. This museum shows the struggles that occurred during the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s.

Fantastic Cuisine and Shopping

There are a lot of interesting and luxurious shops in Alabama. You won’t want to miss the unclaimed baggage center in Scottsboro. It is essentially a huge thrift store that sells items from lost luggage and unclaimed baggage. This concept is interesting and it attracts people from all over.

When thinking of a different kind of shopping, you will want to look for a luxury jewelry store in Mountain Brook, AL. Mountain Brook is only a little under two hours from Scottsboro, so these shopping trips can be coordinated in the same Alabama vacation! Alabama has tons of handmade jewelry, clothing and furniture that will leave you wanting to shop around the whole state.

When thinking of cuisine, eat as much Southern comfort food as you can find—there is absolutely no shortage in Alabama. BBQ pulled pork can be found just about anywhere, as well as sweet potatoes with marshmallows.

To Experience the Southern Charm of the State

Alabama has so much to offer, along with some undeniable charm that can’t be beat. You will feel welcomed and happy anywhere you go because of the nice people. The hospitable feel will have you wanting to pack up and move to this charming, gorgeous state. Next time you are in the market for a new adventure, pack your bags and head to Alabama!
