Looking for what to do in the summer? As Covid vaccination rates continue to rise, restrictions are (depending on where you are in the world) gradually slowing down; and we are all feeling ready to get out and about. Here are some practically vacation-like ideas of activities you can try out this summer:
1. Wakeboarding
If you have your own boat, well, that is awesome. If you are like the rest of us, you can opt to rent a ski boat with a wakeboard (invite some friends to make this activity more affordable and fun!).
Wakeboarding is like snowboarding in the water. It is not easy, especially during your first time, but it can be such a refreshing and fun thing to do in the summer. Bonus points if you can do some turns in the wakeboard!
2. Tubing
You’ll also need a boat (or a jet ski) to do this one. Tip: It is most fun when you don’t try to grip the tube too much, just let yourself fall into the water!
3. Kayaking
Kayaking is quite versatile, you can do it solo or with a partner, in the sea or in the river. This summer, my partner and I got an inflatable kayak and we’ve been having a great time exploring some spots just outside the city! It’s a perfect way to break the monotony of the week and get a workout done while being outdoors.
4. Stand-up paddle
SUP is another practical activity that can be done in different types of water and variations (you can even do yoga on it). While you typically can’t go that far with this one, I personally really enjoy standing up and navigating my way through calmer waters.
5. Jet ski
Need I say more? If you haven’t tried jet skiing yet, this is the sign you’ve been waiting for. Schedule it for this summer, you won’t regret it! It’s a fun and easy activity to do and it can be bundled with tubing if you’d like to.
6. Rafting
Go on a rafting tour with friends! There are various difficulty levels, so make sure to plan ahead for that, but it’s a nice adventure that can be done in just a few hours.
7. Diving or cliff jumping
If it has been a while since you’ve been to your local swimming pool, it might be worth a visit! You can try jumping from different heights and enjoy diving in a safe environment to practice your movements.
If you decide to go cliff jumping: Please, please be cautious. I hesitated to add this to the list, but it is a fairly common activity and you can do it *relatively* safely if you’ve practiced diving beforehand, if you know the area well, and if you go with other people who are more experienced than you.
8. Hydrospeed
This isn’t very well known in North America but there are some options available depending on your location. I’ve done this in France and it was one of the wildest things I’ve tried!
You’re basically swimming in a river with a small surfboard attached to your arms. You’ll experience the river on a whole different level (and appreciate safe ground once you’re back to it).
9. Snorkeling
Snorkeling can be so entertaining even if there aren’t a lot of fishes around. Being underwater is always an interesting feeling, and seeing what is going on down there, whether that is little animals or just the scenario itself.
10. Flyboard
Ok, I haven’t tried this one myself yet but I can’t wait to try this out! This just seems like a very unique activity to try at least once.
If you are trying out one of the activities listed above, or if you enjoyed the read, leaving a "like" or a tip would be much appreciated :) happy summer!
