Some people like to say that finance is boring. They think it’s just a bunch of numbers and graphs. But there are so many different careers in the financial industry, from personal banking to risk management. In this article, we will explore some of the most popular options for those interested in pursuing a career in finance.

Financial Planning and Advising

This career path involves helping people to manage their money. Financial planners help set up budgets, invest in retirement plans and other long-term savings options, and save for college costs or a new home. They can work within an insurance company or directly with clients via phone or email.

Corporate Finance

This broad field involves everything from working in the finance department of a major company or corporation to investment banking. In corporate finance, an individual would work closely with a CEO and CFO on all issues related to money management within a business, including investments, mergers and acquisitions, debt financing, and public offerings.

Accounting

Accounting is another popular career choice for people who want to work in the financial industry. Individuals working as accountants are responsible for keeping records of a company’s or individual’s income, expenses, and other transactions that have taken place over time. They also prepare tax returns at the end of each year.

Banking

Banking is a career choice where the individual works in the finance department of a bank, credit union, or other financial institution. Under banking, one can either be a bank teller, loan officer, marketing director, or branch manager.

Insurance

People who work in insurance can be either sales agents or claim adjusters. Individuals working as sales representatives will help sell and explain different policies, such as life insurance or car insurance, to clients. They earn commissions when they show potential customers the advantages of purchasing these products. An individual working in claims may interview victims of accidents and review police reports, medical records, and other documents to determine whether or not an individual is eligible for insurance. There are also customer service or actuary jobs.

Investment Banking

This field has become increasingly popular over the last few decades. Individuals working in investment banking are responsible for advising companies on how to raise money through selling stocks and bonds, as well as mergers and acquisitions. They also help investors determine what types of investments they should make with their own money.

About Saagar Gupta

Saagar Gupta is the founding partner and fund manager of SG3 Capital, a private investment firm located in Puerto Rico. Since inception in 2015, SG3 Capital has focused on taking a proactive approach to asset management. One of the firm’s greatest strengths is its ability to form strategic partnerships with other firms and individuals who share a passion for finance and helping others achieve their financial goals.

After graduating from high school in Oakland, California, Saagar Gupta got his first exposure to finance at the hedge fund Ascend Capital as an intern. Although he had already enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Saagar loved the experience so much that he briefly considered skipping MIT and working at the hedge fund full-time. After graduating from MIT with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Saagar worked at Susquehanna International Group where he learned a lot about the finance industry and how to effectively manage capital. In 2010, Saagar moved from Philadelphia to New York City to become a quantitative trader at HAP Capital. After about four years at HAP Capital, Saagar decided to spend a few months travelling to Europe with his young but growing family. He had several new opportunities he was considering, but the idea to start SG3 Capital came to him while he was in a small town in Italy, and the freedom of working for himself has been life-changing.
