And Why Socialism Is Not Good As It Seems.

Why exactly are Millennials embracing socialism? This is a question Baby Boomers and Generation X has been wondering. Never in American History has there been so many youths accepting of this system. It would would seem the vast majority of young Democrat supporters, if not the entirety of young voters, have now largely accepted the ideas of Socialism.

What caused this phenomenon? Perhaps it is time to unveil the mysticism of why this love of Socialism in Millennials is very pronounced. There are two reasons why this is the case. The first reason related to the years 2001-2006.Why are these years important? It is because during this time, a vast majority of Millenials enrolled in colleges with Liberal Arts Majors.

Ah yes, Liberal Arts Majors. One of the many useless degrees in College. Literature, History, Fine Arts, Gender Studies, Race Relations...the list goes on. When the author of this article was a college student himself, he had first hand experience in this ordeal. Those whom were pursuing Liberal Arts Majors had no idea what they were in for upon graduation. Once these Millennials had graduated, their majors were found to be very useless in the economic sector. Which in itself is an entirely other reason.

From December 2007 to June 2009, the United States; and the rest of the world, endured what Historians called The Great Recession. It was a time of economic downturns and financial strains on the American people. Since the Millennials with their Liberal Arts Majors could not find suitable employment outside of the minimum wage. This also generated another problem in itself when Millennials were said, in some cases, to be "over qualified" to be hired.

With no where to turn, the Millennials flocked to the Democrat Party. It was here the Democrats were willing to spread the word of Socialism. No longer would the people need to worry. With the government aiding the people in the form of special programs, the problems of uncertainty would be solved...

Unless you factor in the reality of it all.

While Socialism does sound appealing to American Millennials, there are many problems with it. First of all, the widespread belief that the American Government has endless resources is preposterous. All of the money the government utilizes in various fields such as infrastructure, policing, environmental protection, and the military all come from taxes paid by working Americans.

It is impossible to afford these social programs the Millennials desire when the pool of workers is low. How does America hope to provide when it cannot obtain the taxes needed to pay for these programs? To believe the government has infinite supplies at its disposal is a foolish way of thinking. Economics is said to be the science of scarcity and with this scarcity, not everyone will be able to obtain everything. Especially when its provided at government expense. Someone had to pay the cost.

Even as these Millenials ignore the drawbacks of Socialism, they still uphold its impossible ideals. While it is noble for the Government to be able to provide for its people, its highly unlikely to happen. The money to afford these things must come from somewhere. It is not going to magically appear. Taxes are what enable the government to have money. Money which comes from working people.

Now one could argue the Treasury could print more money. After all, that would fix the money problem. Yet another problem arises with this. The more money available, the higher the inflation rate. Is this what Millenials want? A higher cost of living in exchange for a socialist paradise? It is something that people must consider.

In closing, a Socialist America does sound fancy to Millenials. However the grim reality cannot be ignored.
