Why am I here..

How did I go from being a video creator on Tiktok and News Clapper to a writer of words here on Vocal..

(S/O to Jen X Journal for the push!)

"Didn't you fail English in high school" Mr. Shipwreck said carefully over a plate of Keto cabbage and bacon. I looked at him, teary eyed still from losing my Tiktok & followers with whom I had conversed with on a daily basis for the last 7 months.

"I'm not trying to be insensitive, I just know that writing has never been your thing" he continued. I looked down at my now cold dinner trying to figure out how to explain to him the devastation I felt. A devastation that would hit me a total of 5 times before this was all over. Losing my videos, my platform and my crew in a single moment and for no clear reason was heart wrenching to me, but for him was barely a blip on the overall radar of bad shit that could happen. I couldn't be upset at him though, this was my love language, not his. 10 years of marriage taught me that there are somethings that just won't change. His inability to console his sometimes sad, angry and anxious wife was one of them.

I smiled softly to myself, then at him. "I know" I whispered as the last tear I would ever cry over social media glittered down my cheek.

Hi!

My name is Shipwreck and I am a stay at home mom to 3 amazing boys ages 6,8 & 18. Married to one of the hardest working men on the planet and holding down our zoo of 2 cats, 2 dogs & a hamster named Tony.

I started out on Tiktok where I gained a decent following for my resistance to the response of Covid19 (lock downs, masks, social distancing ect.) and ability to know my worth when it came to not backing down from online bullies, antagonists and shit starters. I never went looking for a fight, but it always seemed to come find me. Unfortunately, although my stance was popular amongst most people, it was wildly unpopular to those who were on the brunt end of it. Which caused a flurry of mass reporting and eventually a permanent ban from Tiktok.

I had then moved on to another app called News Clapper who, at the time, advocated for free speech not hate speech. It was perfect. I was able to make videos voicing my opinions on matters that were important to me and important to my crew and as long as I stayed within the guidelines we could grow and expand from there.

That ship swelled to 150k followers strong when the 6th of January hit and a Big Tech conservative sweep took place throughout all platforms. Even though I never went to DC, posted footage or spoke of the rally I was caught up in the hype and we were done. Perm banned with again, no explanation other than "we had no choice"

I never before cared for politics, politicians or Washington DC prior to 2020 however my perception changed with the reaction that our leaders had in response to Covid-19. After watching many friends lose their jobs, having my kids pulled from school and the mental health of all Americans hit a low I'd never seen before, I started to speak out.

I spoke up when our school passed on returning to in-person learning but still hosted a variety of extra curricular activities.

I spoke up when our school board met "secretly" to decided what was best for our children in regards to their health and safety.

I spoke up about how wearing a dirty mask could not possibly be good for your health even IF it was preventing you from catching or spreading covid.

I received backlash from strangers online and in my community because of my opinion as well as almost fearless decision to start pointing out publicly what everyone else was already saying in hushed tones on the sidelines of the baseball fields.

Coming from an immunocompromised community myself, it never made sense to me. This sudden need for facial virtue signaling when just days before, most people were still parking unlawfully in the handicapped spot as well as leaving their shopping carts willly nilly about the parking lot like animals. ANIMALS I TELL YOU!

If you don't know the shopping cart theory, look it up. It's a good one. Maybe I'll write a story about it?

In conclusion that, in a round about way, is how I ended up here. I need a creative outlet that isn't always about politics or the "news" and that's what I aim for this to be. An outlet. I also love communicating with people so if you would like to follow me on Instagram or Rumble, I am very responsive to DMs and more than happy to answer any questions you have or discuss writing about any topics YOU'RE interest in.

Politics is fine, but people are the real reason I keep coming back. It does not matter to me which side of the isle you're on. I firmly believe that there is always something we will have in common and I can't wait to find out what that is.

- Much Love,

Shipwreck
