Akah gives his thoughts.

On the 15th of December, The Nigerian Communications Commissions released a press statement in regards to the implementation of new SIM registration rules.

The press release statement said in its key parts that network operators are to require ALL their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) to update SIM registration records, and that this submission of NIN by subscribers is to take place within two weeks (from December 16, 2020 to end by 30 December, 2020). The statement said that after the deadline, ALL SIMs without NINs were to be blocked from the networks.

After uproar from Nigerians who thought the two week window was ridiculous, the deadline was extended to 19th January, 2021 for subscribers with NIN and 19th February 2021 for subscribers without NIN.

Since all of this has been happening, the biggest question Nigerians have been asking is – why? Why now? What is the point of the NIN? Why is the government insisting on this?

Akah Nnani

Well, popular Nigerian actor, presenter and YouTuber Akah Nnani in his latest vlog is giving his thoughts on everything happening and in usual Akah fashion, it is fun, funny, and as always interesting. So without further ado, let's get into it!

So, on Akah's Youtube Akah Bants, in his latest video after laughing at several Nigerians’ reactions to the whole NIN matter, the Nollywood actor decided to get serious and give his own thoughts about the NIN issue. He said in the vlog:

To be honest, this NIN NIMC thing is one of those things that creep me out. I’m just like what does this government want to do? Especially coming on the heels of this #EndSARS thing. I just feel like this is some way for them to monitor everybody more, or be more in control of everybody’s lives online. Just…they wan track una! Or they want a way where they can just say “let’s shut down all the lines”. If they have everybody’s details or numbers, they can pinpoint people and say block block block, shut shut shut. I don’t know – I feel – I don’t know if I’m correct. This is allegedly oh before anybody go and say Akah say. But I don’t know. I don’t know why.

In response to his comments and jokes on the vlog, people reacted.

One commenter said:

Abeg 😂😭😂 I don’t have strength

I don’t even care about the NIMC thing.

Them never block my sim sha

Another person said:

it's like every year, this administration looks for 'creative' ways to make lives harder for nigerians. like "welcome to another level of wickedness" muahahaha!!!!😈

While yet another commenter said:

Nigeria is a country where everybody is crazy, our government na monster, they just want to give us work so that we go forget endears. na God go punish all of them

Everybody seems to have their different thoughts and reactions to not only Akah's vlog but this whole NIN situation in general. The whole thing is crazy. If you want to have some more fun and see some Nigerian celebrities' reactions to all this, then here you go - they are quite funny.

That’s All.
