The Path Towards Positively Progressing

Thoughts from the Coalition

Our mentality as individual human beings dictates the actions and reactions we will have throughout the existence we experience. If our goal as a species is to exist within a global human civilization that has the best interest of every single member of the human species, our actions must support this goal. Each human being must exist and act in a manner that supports the goal of the human species as a whole. Our actions revolve around our perceptions of the previous experiences we have endured throughout our life. Over time as we consistently undergo the same experiences, we form a guiding principle that we use to filter our future decisions. Since we cannot go back in time and change those experiences, the question then becomes how do we realign our actions in a way that will support the achievement of a better global human civilization?

To ensure this alignment, we must actively analyze our actions before we make them and determine if they meet the standards of our principles. These principles must honor every single human being’s privileges of existence. It is important to understand that as human beings we already operate on a set of principles. Some principles are almost universal, while other principles could be considered a fringe principle. Regardless of the specific principles we currently hold, we should all be able to agree that every human being has guiding principles that they call upon, both consciously and subconsciously to help them analyze the action they are going to take.

As the HCRC, we want to understand what principles are needed to guide the human species to building a better global human civilization. While pondering upon these necessary principles we must ensure that they are compliant to the privileges of existence for every single member of the human species. We must ensure that the privileges that we subscribe to as a civilization keep the best interest of all human beings in mind. These are the foundational criteria that the principles we need as a species must meet for us to positively progress our global human civilization.

One thing we must emphasize regarding any principle that is determined necessary towards building a better global human civilization is that the specific terminology that we may use to describe a principle may have overlap with the traditional definition of another principle. We must not let the specifics of labeling lessen the importance of the concepts behind any principles that are necessary for the human species to positively progress. Regardless of the words chosen to represent the concept, we will explore the philosophical concepts behind the labels we have chosen and explore differently labeled philosophical concepts that share similarities.

As the HCRC, the first principle that we have determined is necessary towards building a better global human civilization is compassion. When we think of any sort of philosophical principle that humans have cherished throughout essentially our entire existence as a species, we can’t help but think compassion tops that list. When we contemplate principles that will align with the goal of building a better global human civilization that values and protects the privileges of existence for every single human being, compassion fulfills that criteria.

The official Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of compassion reads as the following,” sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it”. With a definition of this nature, it is easy to see why compassion is a crucial philosophical concept that we can utilize to build a better global human civilization. The concept of compassion seems to be synonymous with a human being’s ability to empathize with another human being’s situation combined with a drive to help with that situation. To understand another human being’s suffering, and seek ways to reduce that suffering or at the very least not add on to it. Generally, a compassionate person displays the traits of a generous or giving human being. It may not always be the act of giving material or monetary gifts, more times than not the human beings we would consider to be the most compassionate are those who give their time and energy to other human beings. Regardless of the exact string of words we use to define compassion, as the HCRC we believe that a similar concept is invoked when any human being thinks of the guiding principle of compassion, and that compassion is vital on our path as a species towards building a better global human civilization.

At its core compassion can help guide each of us as individual human beings in our interactions with others. Most of us as human beings should be able to agree that we would seek compassion from others, especially our loved ones. With the ideologies established in the core commonalities of the human species, the principle of compassion must be extended from each human being to all other human beings. As members of the same species, it only makes sense that we are compassionate to every other member of our shared species.

As human beings, the lens that we view a guiding principle such as compassion can be expanded upon to ensure that we get the most out of it. Based on the official dictionary definition and connotation of the word compassion, our first thoughts are always how we can extend compassion to others. As the HCRC, we want to utilize the power of compassion towards not only other human beings but towards ourselves, all forms of life experiencing existence, and the environment that we exist within. Join us next Friday as we begin to explore how we can harness the power of all-inclusive compassion to achieve the goal of building a better global human civilization.
