The Former Vice President Has Deep Roots in the United States

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was born November 20th, 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. and Catherine Eugenia Finnegan. After the Scranton area fell into decline in the 1950s, Biden and his family moved to Claymont, Delaware before eventually moving to Wilmington, Delaware. Biden attended the University of Delaware where he was a double major in history and political science and where he played football as a halfback for the school's freshman football team. Biden would go on to attend the Syracuse University School of Law and would graduate in 1968.

On August 27th, 1966, when Biden was 23 years old, Biden married Neilia Hunter in Skaneateles, New York. They would have three children together, Joseph R "Beau" Biden III (1969-2015), Robert Hunter Biden (b. 1970), and Naomi (1970-1972).

On December 18th, 1972, Neilia was out shopping with their children when their vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer truck killing Neilia and Naomi, Beau and Hunter both survived the crash.

Five years later, Biden would marry Jill Jacobs in Manhattan, New York. The two of them have been together for 43 years.

Biden would continue to serve in the United States Senate until 2009 when he became Vice-President of the United States to President Barack Obama.

The Parents of Joe Biden

Joseph Robinette Biden was born November 13th, 1915 in Baltimore, Maryland to Joseph Harry Biden and Mary Elizabeth Robinette. Catherine Eugenia Finnegan was born July 7th, 1917 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Ambrose Joseph Finnegan and Geraldine Blewett. On October 16th, 1940 Joseph signed up for the draft as the United States entered into World War Two. On his draft card, Joseph is listed as working for American Oil in York, Pennsylvania. He is also listed as being 6 feet tall, 153 pounds, and having hazel eyes, black hair, and a light complexion.

On May 30th, 1941, Joseph and Catherine married in Lackawanna, Pennsylvania when Joseph was 25 and Catherine was 23.

Joseph died on September 2nd, 2002 at age 61 and Catherine died January 8th, 2010 at age 92. They are buried in Saint Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware.

Paternal Grandparents of Joe Biden: Joseph Biden and Mary Elizabeth Rabinette

Joseph Harry Biden was born June 14th, 1893 in Baltimore, Maryland to George F. and Mary Emily. Mary Elizabeth Robinette was born in November 1894 in Maryland to George Hamilton Robinette and Mary. In the 1920 United States Federal Census, Joseph, Mary, and their family are listed as living in Baltimore, Maryland. Joseph is listed as working for an Oil Company as a salesman. By the time the 1930 United States Census was taken, the Biden's moved to Wilmington, Delaware where they lived at 1504 West 7th Street. Joseph was still working as a salesman but now worked at the Industrial Plant.

Between 1935 and 1940, the Biden family would once again move, this time they moved to Scranton, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately for the Biden family, both Joseph and Mary died shortly after the move to Scranton.

The Maternal Grandparents of Joe Biden: Ambrose Finnegan and Geraldine Blewett

Ambrose Joseph Finnegan was born July 11th, 1883 in Olyphant, Pennsylvania to James Finnegan and Catherine Roche. Geraldine Blewett was born January 1st, 1886 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Edward Blewett and a mother who's name is unknown. Between 1900 and 1910, Ambrose and Geraldine married. By 1910, the two were living at the Finnegan residence in Pennsylvania where Ambrose worked as a civil engineer. By September of 1918, Ambrose and Geraldine moved to a new home in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Woodlawn street. This was listed on Ambrose's draft card for World War One. On this card, he is also listed as being tall, medium build, and having gray eyes and dark hair. Ambrose was also working as an advertising solicitor for a local newspaper.

By 1930, the Finnegan family moved to a house on Monsey Avenue in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Ambrose was now working as an advertising manager in the newspaper industry while Geraldine was a housewife staying home with their remaining children that lived with them. In April of 1942, Ambrose would once again register for the draft as the United States entered into World War Two. During this time, Ambrose was still working in advertising but this time is listed as working for the Scrantonian-Tribune.

Geraldine died on June 24th, 1949 at age 63 and Ambrose died May 27th, 1957 when he was 73 years old. Both are now buried at Saint Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania. During their lives together, they had five children together, Gerard, Edward, Ambrose, Catherine, and John.

The Paternal Great-Grandparents of Joe Biden: George F Biden and Mary Emily Liddell

George F. Biden was born in October of 1867 in Maryland to Joseph H and Lydia Ann Biden. Mary Emily Liddell was born September 14th, 1872 in Maryland to Robert Theodore Liddell and Susan Bomberger. George and Mary married in 1889 when George was 22 and Mary was 17. In 1900, George and Mary were living in Baltimore with their two children. George is listed as working as a produce dealer. By the time the 1910 Census was taken, the Biden family moved to 1948 Mosher Street in Baltimore. George was still working as a produce dealer and their two children, Joseph and Eugenia, were still living with them.

On February 1st, 1922, Mary Emily Liddell died at age 49. George Biden died eleven years later in 1933 at age 66. George and Mary were buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland.

Joe Biden's Paternal Great-Grandparents: George Hamilton and Mary Ann Robinette

George Hamilton Robinette was born October 3rd, 1844 in Maryland to Moses Robinette and his mother whose name is unknown. Mary Ann was born August 27th, 1862 in Ohio to parents whose names are unknown. In 1882, George and Mary Ann married, when George was 38 and Mary Ann was 20 years old. By 1900, the Robinette family moved to 21 East Hill Street in Baltimore. In the Census that year, George is listed as working as a locomotive engineer and they had their three children living with them. By 1910, the Robinettes were still living in their house on East Hill Street but by this time, George was now working as a railroad inspector. Unfortunately, George died just four years later on April 2nd, 1914 at age 69. Mary Ann died sixteen years later on January 2nd, 1930 at age 67. They are now buried in Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore,

The Paternal 2x Great-Grandparents of Joe Biden: Joseph H Biden and Lydia Ann

Joseph H Biden was born September 5th, 1828 in Maryland to William Henry Biden and Mary Elkin. Lydia Ann was born in January of 1835 to parents whose names are unknown in Maryland. By 1860, Joseph and Lydia were living on a farm in Baltimore with their four children. On July 1st, 1863, Joseph registered to join the Union Army in the American Civil War. At this time, he was listed as working as a carpenter. It is unknown if Joseph ever actually participated as no record were found to confirm this.

By 1870, the Biden family was still living in Baltimore and Joseph was still working as a carpenter. By this point, they had four more children together bringing the total to eight. By 1880, the Biden family moved to 639 West Lombard Street in Baltimore. Joseph was still working but was now working as a packer. Joseph would eventually become a prominent commission merchant in Baltimore in his later years until his death on June 2nd, 1895 at age 68. Lydia died September 7th, 1902 after an illness at age 67.

The Paternal 2x Great-Grandparents of Joe Biden: Robert Theodore Liddell and Susan E Bomberger

Robert Theodore Liddell was born January 4th, 1844 in Maryland to John Liddell and Emeline Carmine. Susan E Bomberger was born May 9th, 1844 in Maryland to parents whose names are unknown. In 1870, Robert and Susan were living in Baltimore with their eldest son William. At the time, Robert was then working in a shoe factory. In 1880, the Biden family was living at 18 Norrie Street in Baltimore. Robert and Susan now had four more children named, Emiline, Robert, John, and Frank. Robert was now working at a shoe store in Baltimore. On October 4th, 1914, Robert died when he was 70 years. Susan died ten years later on July 25th, 1924 when she was 80 years old. They are now buried in the Baltimore Cemetery.
