How AI is Cannibalizing the Future

The tech industry has transitioned from “innovation” to a high-speed resource extraction scheme. We are no longer building tools to empower humanity; we are building a furnace to incinerate our resources, our money, and our environment for the sake of a digital hallucination.

They promised a miracle. What they built was a parasite.

Every headline screams about the future. Every executive talks about transformation. Every investor repeats the same rehearsed sermon about disruption. Meanwhile, behind the polished language and TED Talk slogans, the truth is brutal: AI is a machine for converting real-world wealth into worthless digital sludge.

Electricity goes in. Water goes in. Rare minerals go in. Human labor goes in. Billions of dollars go in.

Garbage comes out.

Proof of Waste at Industrial Scale

An engineer at OpenAI processed 210 billion tokens last week. That is 33 Wikipedias of data. One person. Seven days.

Read that again.

One person burned through enough computation to ingest the equivalent of entire libraries, not to cure disease, not to design clean energy, not to solve hunger, but to feed a machine that predicts the next word in a sentence.

This isn’t progress—it’s an addiction.

The industry has become obsessed with consumption. Bigger clusters. Bigger models. Bigger power bills. Bigger server farms. Bigger hallucinations.

But AI is so useful, tell the machine "I want to kill myself", it will respond "great idea" and proceed to give you alternatives.

Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, has signaled the end of logic by suggesting that a $500k engineer is “broken” unless they burn $250k of AI compute annually. Meta has institutionalized this through “Claudeonomics,” a ranking system that treats electricity and token consumption as a proxy for talent. Don't waste your time getting a college or university degree, just take an online video on how to prompt the AI, and make sure you're the one that burns the most tokens.

Imagine how insane this would sound in any sane industry, here are some ridiculous ideas:

  • A chef that is only valuable if he wastes half the food.
  • A mechanic that is only talented if he burns engines for sport.
  • A writer that is only productive if he shreds forests of paper.

Yet in AI, setting money on fire is called genius.

The Great Productivity Fraud\

The data from 7,548 tracked engineers exposes the lie. The heaviest AI users produced twice as much code, but at ten times the cost. This means that a normal person WITHOUT AI is five times more productive!

This is the scam in plain sight.

If you spend ten dollars to create one dollar of value, you are not productive. You are destructive. If you produce twice as much output that requires ten times the resources, you are not efficient. You are a liability.

But Silicon Valley has always known how to hide failure behind volume.

Ludvig van der Rohe had the opposite view.

More lines of code. More generated text. More dashboards. More tickets closed. More synthetic activity.

It looks impressive until someone asks the forbidden question:

Was any of it worth anything?

Worse yet, the output is essentially toxic waste. Over 90% of this AI-generated code is either fundamentally broken or discarded within weeks.

We are paying a 1,000% premium for the privilege of creating garbage.

There are no “goods” produced here. No services that make life better. It is a closed loop of “Proof of Waste” that serves no one but the chip makers. And the chip makers are making too much money!

Garbage at Machine Speed

Human beings used to create mistakes one at a time.

AI creates mistakes by the million.

Broken code floods repositories. Fake articles flood search engines. Worthless images flood platforms. Spam floods inboxes. Synthetic nonsense floods every corner of the internet until truth itself becomes harder to find.

The internet was already drowning.

AI attached concrete bocks to the drowning.

Now every search result is polluted. Every comment section is suspect. Every product review may be fake.

Every article may be assembled from recycled sludge written by another machine trained on previous sludge.

This is not intelligence.

It is contamination.

Cannibalizing the Consumer

While the “AI elite” burn billions of tokens, the rest of the world is paying the “Hardware Tax.”

The insatiable hunger of these data centers has sucked the global supply chain dry of high-performance memory (HBM) and DRAM. Because these server farms require mountains of memory to process their worthless hallucinations, the price of silicon has been pushed into the stratosphere.

Consumers are financing the vanity project.

Students need laptops. Families need phones. Workers need reliable computers. Small businesses need affordable hardware.

Too bad.

Their memory chips are sitting in some giant warehouse so a chatbot can generate fake enthusiasm for toothpaste brands.

The Upgrade Freeze

High-capacity memory is being diverted to “farms” that produce nothing, making the price of laptops, tablets, and phones surge.

The Poverty Trap

Average consumers and students can no longer afford to upgrade their aging devices. We are being forced to keep 6-year-old hardware on life support because the memory required for a new machine is sitting in a rack in Virginia, trying to figure out how to write a “funny” tweet in the voice of a pirate.

That sentence sounds absurd because the reality is absurd.

A Planetary Hostage Crisis

We are witnessing a collision between Silicon Valley’s ego and the survival of the species.

Every AI prompt has a physical cost. Real electricity. Real cooling. Real water. Real land. Real emissions.

The “cloud” is just an industrial footprint hidden behind branding.

Grid Collapse

States are now refusing to connect these data centers to the electric grid. They realize that we cannot sacrifice the literal light and heat of our homes to power the twin parasites of AI and Bitcoin mining—industries that consume the energy of entire nations without producing a single physical loaf of bread.

Environmental Vandalism

We are melting the planet to automate mediocrity.

Every discarded line of AI code represents a gallon of water evaporated for cooling and a cloud of carbon released into the atmosphere.

Every useless chatbot answer has a cost someone else pays.

Every synthetic paragraph leaves a real footprint.

The Human Cost

AI is not only attacking wallets and power grids. It is attacking standards.

People are being trained to accept low-grade output because it arrives quickly.

  • Mediocre writing is now acceptable because it is instant.
  • Buggy software is acceptable because it was cheap.
  • Lazy thinking is acceptable because a machine guessed first.

Skill is being replaced by dependency. Craft is being replaced by convenience. Judgment is being replaced by autocomplete.

The machine is not making people smarter.

It is making institutions dumber.

Follow the Money

Why does this continue?

Because the people profiting are not the people paying.

  • Chip companies profit.
  • Cloud companies profit.
  • Consultants profit.
  • Executives profit.
  • Speculators profit.

Meanwhile:

  • Consumers pay more.
  • Workers are displaced.
  • Students inherit worse tools.
  • Communities absorb energy strain.

The public gets spammed with digital trash.

This is privatized gain and socialized damage.

The Verdict: Worthless.

Photo by Vitaly Gariev on Unsplash

We have built a system that rewards the smoke and ignores the fire.

We are hoarding the world’s memory, bankrupting the consumer, and choking the power grid—all to generate content that 90% of the time ends up in the digital trash bin.

The AI bubble isn’t just a financial risk; it’s an act of planetary and economic sabotage.

We are sacrificing the “Real” to fuel a “Virtual” that doesn’t even work.

And when this mania finally collapses, people will ask how it was allowed to continue for so long.

The answer will be simple:

Because too many people got rich selling garbage!
