The rights of every citizen

A lot of times i have always thought that democracy was meant to be or may be termed as a government for the people, by the people, and of the people. Or maybe should i say it refers to a form of government in which the people either have the authority to choose their governing legislators, or the authority to decide on legislation. But in Nigeria, the reverse is always being the case. On the 12th of June is the nation's democracy day celebration.

Over time there have been a lot of abnormalities in the government and especially in this present regime of the current president of the nation. There have been a total misinterpretation of the rule of law in the country. A lot of time the citizen's rights have always been undermined and this has since caused an uproar between the youth of the nation and the present administration of the nation. On the 12th of June, the youths and all other citizens came out in mass to protest against the current administration and its flaws. It was then surprising when the present administration sent out forces to stop peaceful protesting. The different armed forces of the government assigned to protest grounds were bullet freaks and they started shooting at protesters. A lot of unlawful arrests were made and innocent citizens were put behind bars. After seeing this i must say that democracy has since disappeared in the country. The recent ban of Twitter in the nation has also raised an uproar in the area of the rights of the citizens talking about the citizen's rights to freedom of speech. The Twitter ban has affected a lot of citizens of the country including their businesses. There has been a great decline in revenue for different companies and establishments. Since the inception of the ban, the citizens have resulted in the use of VPN (Virtual Private Networks.) The country's citizens now access Twitter from different locations, all because they have to make their voices heard and get their businesses moving. It is however funny to know that the Twitter boss, Jack Dorsey, tweeted the Nigerian flag on the 12th of June. A lot of discussions have arisen by virtue of the tweet by the Twitter boss. The tweet shows the love the Twitter boss has for the country, statistics show that Nigeria citizens tweet the most amongst all other countries in Africa. The government of the country has changed from a democracy-led government to a dictatorship government. Citizens no longer have the right to speak freely as they are afraid of what might happen after speaking. Like the popular saying "Freedom of speech i can assure you, but freedom after speech i can't guarantee you." This has been the order of the day in Nigeria.

The prayer for a revival in Nigeria has since emerged since the present administration had taken position. Nigeria has always been the pride of Africa, A country that has got in abundant natural resources. She was once the chief exporter of crude oil. The hope for a new Nigeria will never and should never die in every Nigerian. It is and has always been a peaceful protest and not a war. The right to a peaceful protest must be served. The hope of a better tomorrow and a nation governed by democracy should not be killed in all Nigerians. But then, no matter the case may be the power still lies in the hands of the people. It doesn't matter how long dictatorship or tyranny exists, there will be a new dawn in the history of the country. Nigeria will be great again.

It is a peaceful protest and not a war!
