No Equality

Start There are certain people who think that equality is just a myth made up by people who just want to make noise, trying to grasp at something that is too far off to be reached, and fooling people into thinking that this is achievable. I have seen so much in the short time I have been in this world, but what I have seen is enough to make me wonder where this world is headed and what will be left when we get there. Equality is not just a pipe dream that has been passed down from generation to generation, it is something that is desperately needed in order for the world to have a chance at surviving.

Superiority is a false notion that one side is better than the other and that by keeping one side from rising to equal stature with the other that a sense of balance is somehow achieved; this lie has been told for centuries and we continue to let it. We continuously wait for someone else to come along and change things because we have been brainwashed into thinking that we don’t have the power to make change. We can do anything if we are determined and willing to no longer allow others to dictate what we do and how we do it; life seems to be getting shorter and the list of changes keeps getting longer. Minorities have fought long and hard to have an equal seat at the table and being constantly told that you are not good enough is the soundtrack to the movie of the world. No one person is truly better than another and as much as old history books would have you believe otherwise, there have been some serious issues when the subject of equality is brought up and discussed.

The narrative that has been told to children and adults alike is that you have to fit a certain measure of standard in order to be considered an equal in the eyes of society and that pushes the outliers even further out of the picture. People have had this ingrained into there heads since birth and now they try to push that way of thinking onto the next generation and this viscous cycle is started and will never end. A great example of this is the LGBT+ community and how most of these people feel that they have to hide this part of their life because they are afraid of being treated as less than by the rest of society. This has been happening for a long time with the whole making being a gay or lesbian a crime and then the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy of the military that forced people to hide even more. Even though things have gotten a lot better for this subgroup of society they are still forced to do things because of the laws or lack there of that hurt a lot more than they help.

Equality has eluded this country for so long that there does not seem be a way out no matter how hard that we try to work towards a world where everyone is truly thought of as an equal and people are really free to be who they want without consequence. Getting into the whole racial origin of this country and how race was used as a way to keep people in a certain place that could be controlled. Although the minority is the majority, they are still treated as less than because of some old-fashioned notion that someone told others and thy believed to be true and ran with for many generations. The true view on equality is that we as a society will not move in the right direction until we are all thought of as truly equal by everyone and no one tries to put themselves above the rest of us.
