Keep Elon Musk Out of The White House

Catch this: Donald Trump is considering giving Elon Musk a place in his administration if he wins this election. Yes, Elon Musk, of all people. If that isn't a conflict of interest, I don't know what is. Even more conflicting is that Musk would be in charge of a government efficiency commission. Yep, Elon Musk, whose "efficiency cleanup" of Twitter (now known as X) has resulted in a whopping 74% decline in its value. That's not the kind of person I would want in charge of a government efficiency program if I were president.

Musk has mentioned the solvency of Social Security and has stated it needs an overhaul. Something about this feels fishy to me—a billionaire in charge of a program that largely benefits middle-class and poverty-class people.

According to Musk, "America is going bankrupt extremely quickly," as he said at a recent appearance at the All-In Summit. Yet Musk pays less than 1% in taxes, and in some cases, zero—isn't that patriotic? Musk manipulates his stock investments and company ownership so that he can pay only $50,000 for a year's worth of earnings totaling in the hundreds of billions.

Musk has no interest in making the United States efficient and fiscally productive. He just wants to be there so he can affect the reduction of regulations, allowing him and his billionaire business owner friends to get away with whatever they want. He wants to be there so he can ensure that he and his billionaire friends get even bigger breaks on their taxes. They have no interest in doing what is right for the country. You know that, and I know that. Their only interest is self-interest. Not me!

We need a government and governmental commissions that have built-in checks and balances so that these commissions cannot get away with whatever they want. Giving a president and government officials immunity over everything they do is not the way to run a government. We cannot allow the politicians we send to the White House to get away with crooked schemes that only build up their wealth while we, the people, end up paying for it.

People, is that what we want in our government? Do we want it to be run by self-serving billionaires?

The Washington Post has stated that Trump's economic plan will add at least $4.5 trillion to the deficit over the next decade. In contrast, Harris could actually achieve some deficit reduction, depending on how much of the GOP tax cuts she opts to extend. At worst, her plan would increase deficits only modestly, by less than one-fifth of the Trump total.

In reviewing these cases, Kamala Harris’ economic plan appears to be more fiscally responsible while focusing on programs that aid and assist middle-class and poverty-class citizens. Her plan includes cutting taxes but also increasing federal revenue while decreasing the deficit.

Is Harris's plan perfect? Probably not. But I feel that I can trust her more than I can trust Donald Trump to work for the middle class and the poverty class. My perception—and again, this is my perception—is that Donald Trump wants to get in there primarily to affect policies that will benefit him and his billionaire friends. We've been down that path with Donald Trump already and it did not trickle down to us. It never trickles down to us and it never will.

So, I ask you, the readers of this article: Does Elon Musk have the best interests of the citizens of the United States in mind? Does he truly wish to serve the citizens of the United States in an unbiased and non-partisan manner?
