Humanity, A Long Lost Connection

Can we save ourselves?

Here's my vision of the world that we live in. Humans are not connected! We only share connectivity with comfort. I'm talking about connection between a same kind, a same species. We basically walk in a straight line without seeing each other. We are talking about family, friendship, acquaintance, colleague etc...but are we talking about connection on a basic purely instinctive level?

Like animals recognize another individual of their species...They can't talk like us, they can't text or use Facebook, but they have something long lost in human kind, instinct.

I find it really sad to notice that we are so individualist and so self-centered that we miss this opportunity to be all involved with each other. Think about it, together we could eradicate starvation, under developed countries, pollution, capitalism, selfishness, war, hatred and I could go on for days. These are just a few examples of the problems that we could eliminate if we work together.

There are billions and billions of dollars, wons, yens, euros, pounds etc...that could help create a wide world safety net. But selfishness gets in the way. But capitalism gets in the way. But hatred, between us, gets in the way. And the most significant, money gets in the way.

Do we have so little judgment that we can't see what's right under our noses? Destruction, poverty, wealth, discrimination, racism, murder and so much more, are all cancers that will cost us to fall hard someday and it complicates this attempt to connect. It's impossible actually! With all that goes on in the world, do we have a real chance to survive ourselves?

Nowadays, the HOT topic is climate change. We need to change our ways and we need to change that now! Scientists say that we have about a decade to make a turn in the way we handle our waste, to minimize dramatically the pollution, to invest in cleaner energy, to recycle almost everything that we consume and then, we might have a chance to save our little blue universe. It all sounds great on paper, but the truth is...it will never happen. Humans are greedy, at least most of us. I'm thinking about CEOs of big companies that sales toxic products and create an unbelievebable amount of waste every year. Where do you think it goes? If you're guessing right into our planet...you're right. People like that don't care about nature, animals or other humans for that matter. The only important thing, is to make a maximum of money. They don't care either about those who died or suffered for little crumbs of bread. All of that to feed the big machine that makes money to enrich a handful of people at the top of the food chain. We won't change, even if you, litlle guy on 5th avenue, recycle, brew your own compost, grow vegetables, herbs and fruits, make your own bread, use reusable diapers for your baby or (let's go big) have a green house. None of that matter, because the people that need to make this change are corporates, big compagnies, government etc. Some of them are already there, but it most be a group effort. I really really do hope that someday they will wake up, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

It seems that I'm a little pessimist, I don't always see the bad side of things, but on this particular subject, I do confess that I don't have much faith left in human kind. Let's see what the future holds for us...shall we?

About the Creator

Singster Jones

I like to write about things that I witnessed or felt. But I like fiction too, it can be liberating. Writing is a big part of my life and I like to think that it's not only words on paper but kind of a second voice. Hope you like my stuff!
