Everybody did so good!

On the 15th of February, 2021, phenomenal news hit the internet that Nigeria’s own former minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been confirmed as the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization. That announcement in and of itself is exciting but becomes even more exciting when you know that Okonjo-Iweala’s appointment has made history. Okonjo-Iweala becomes the seventh director general of the organization, making history as the first woman and the first African to lead the World Trade Organization.

Reacting to the news, Nigerians worldwide flooded social media with congratulatory messages to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and decided to further celebrate the fantastic news by creating a new challenge in Ngozi’s honor – the challenge is called the #BeLikeNgozi Challenge.

It is a simple challenge that sees the participant dress up in Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s signature traditional attire and gele. Many Nigerians and celebrities alike have hopped into the challenge and today, I’ll be catching you up on everything you missed from the challenge – from the best looks to the funniest looks.

But before that, here are the celebrities who lent a voice to the #BeLikeNgozi Challenge and here is what they said.

While Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji didn’t dress up for the challenge, she still went ahead to support the challenge by posting a picture of her and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala with the caption:

Your only limit is your mind. Let it fly free. #belikengozichallenge

Nigerian OAP, Toke Makinwa also didn’t dress up but supported the challenge by commending Nigerians for the effort being put into celebrating such a momentous time in our Nigerian history. She said:

Love to see all the effort put into #BeLikeNgoziChallenge Nigerians are so supportive, the unity is so humbling and beautiful to watch xx

Nollywood screenwriter and producer Uduak Isong dressed up along with her daughter to pose for the challenge.

Charles Inojie took to Instagram to post the picture below with the caption:

Here's my entry for the ongoing #belikengozichallenge - Prof Ngozi Okonji Iweala's success is our success. Congratulations ma'am

Patience Ozokwor also used the hashtag as an opportunity to post a throwback picture of herself in gele on Twitter.

The outpouring of love has been so much in this challenge and now that we’ve gone through what the celebrities posted and how they reacted, here are some of the highlight pictures from regular people who entered into the challenge. Everybody did such an amazing job!
