Exponential Optimism
Thoughts from the Coalition
In an age where a human being is merited upon the actions they take and the results of said actions, now more than ever is an important time for a conversation around the motives of our actions. If we were to continue to pull the layers back on the motives of human action, we will find multi-faceted reasons that drive our actions as a species. While some motives for our actions have a direct overlap between all humans, such as basic functions for maintaining our life force, other actions that humans decide to undertake seem driven by a different set of logic. Actions driven by motives of this nature may seem to have repercussions both short term and long term that are detrimental to the human being undertaking the action.
A human being taking actions of this nature seem to move through existence with a personal blind spot for their near and distant future. Though it can be easily argued that human beings have been guilty of this indulgence through the course of history, we should allow ourselves to truly absorb the fact that for those of us who live in the wealthiest countries during the most advanced times we have seen to date in our global human civilization, it is even easier now more than ever to fall prey to actions that are driven by short-sighted motives.
With an understanding that our actions are driven by motives, and that some motives are more logical than other motives, we can shift our focus to another question correlated to the actions we take and their underlying motives. How conscientious are we of the motives that are dictating our actions? Although quantifying the conscientiousness of our motives into a measurable metric is unlikely, as human beings, we can each take the time to analyze how conscientious we are of our motives before deciding on our actions. Regardless of your findings on your conscientiousness of the motives driving your actions, the integral lesson is that our actions are driven by motives whether we are aware of them or not, and the sooner we can come to understand the motives that are driving the actions of our lives, then the sooner that we can begin to improve and strengthen the motives that drive our actions as human beings.
As the Human Civilization Reformation Coalition, we believe that there is a greater purpose of analyzing and understanding the motives that dictate our actions. Although it may feel that as individual human beings our actions do not shift the structure of reality that we exist in together as the human species, nonetheless, I encourage every human being to open their mind to the following. What is considered our global human civilization and the cultural norms that dictate the existence we are living within, are all constructs built by the collective action of every human being, which in turn correlates to the motives driving those actions.
Time and time again I have heard those around me mention how there is no return from the depths in which humanity has sunken itself. For those who feel that humanity is doomed, it seems that they have an individualistic view of reality and to a certain degree seemingly try to detach themselves from the human species and the problems that are facing our species. Essentially pretending to be bystanders to the turmoil within our global human civilization and rationalizing that the only sensible way to continue forward is with a motivation for one’s own needs. Most of those that I have examined, who can be deemed with this sort of disparity for the impact that their actions would have on the global human civilization, are not convinced that the human species has reached a perfect point of equilibrium that will positively progress society, rather they are completely paralyzed by the improbability of their actions having any actual impact on our global human civilization.
To ensure that we can build a better global human civilization that faces the problems that threaten our species and the civilization our species inhabits, we will require higher concentrations of optimistic human beings who are motived to act on building a better global human civilization. This is why is it crucial that as individual human beings we find the right motives to guide us towards actions that will help build a better global human civilization. Though there is not one philosophical argument that will allow me to sway each pessimist at once, there is one final thought I hope to share that may influence a hint of positivity in your future actions.
If we were to think of the problems facing humanity as a waveform where the higher the crest the worse off our society is than it is safe to say we are riding a reasonably high crest at this time. Now, think of the actions we each make as human beings as either adding to the height of the crest or descending the height of the crest. With the staggering height of the crest at its current point, it is easy to see why one human being may feel like initiated true change is hopeless. What we should recall is that a constant decrease, no matter how small, will eventually create an exponential curve that will flatten itself eventually, so if you are interested in a better global human civilization for all humans just remember that even micro-actions can have macro results.
