Dear Mr. President...
It's Time to Care About the Earth
Dear Mr. President,
Although I do not enjoy using this title for you, Donald, it is important to do so; after all, you did win the race for this job you sought after. As President of our country, you're role is to not only act as a chief executive of the federal government and Commander in Chief, but it is also to help great progression and change. To care. Over your reign as leader for the United States you've flaunted your wealth and power for the world to see. Can you not use use your influence to lead efforts to preserve the world around us?
I am angry.
Our Mother is dying yet you ignore her outbursts of distress.
Mr. President, whether you like it or not, you need to do your part in environmental care.
Since your term began you've taken strides against helping the environment. Was that out of ignorance? Do you genuinely not care? Did you eliminate the policies that had been set because a Black man created them?
You are a symbol that future generations will reflect on--what will they see? At this rate, you could be coined as the man that did nothing when the lifespan of our earth would have lasted longer. The man who mocked a child working to bring global efforts, who refused to acknowledge evidence from scientists, and who was blinded by capitalist greed. The ice caps are melting and the glaciers are retreating. Ice and snow rates are shrinking while the sea levels rise. Natural disasters are intensifying, killing innocent lives (both human and animal) globally while you preach "fake news" to your mindless following.
Your time as president may be reaching its end, but it also may not. If you win the role once again we need you to ally with Mother Nature, not against her. You have the power, now use it to aid in the quality of life for the future generations.
There's plenty that could be done. I urge you to make a start by declaring climate change as a national security threat. Show the world you want to make a change. That there needs to be changes. Reenact policies that carefully monitor air pollution and resource usage. Restore public land that has been monetized. Push for the use of natural resources that are less damaging to the environment. Enforce the protection of wildlife and their ecosystems.
Mr. President, you have followers that will just about act on what you say and do. Instead of being a beacon of hate and unrest, preach love and respect for people and the earth we are living on.
If the government is truly supposed to be for the people, then act. The United States is a superpower, therefore our country is a crucial to make these environmental changes and reverse damage from decades of neglect.
You might try to point out, once again, that climate changes is fake. A hoax. Conspiracy, even. But I must ask, Mr. President, so what?
So what if climate change isn't legitimate? An error in facts? A natural occurrence that we couldn't foresee/meant to happen? While there are plenty of carefully researched facts as well as evidence people are seeing and experience to prove that this is a thing that is happening, is it such a bad thing to take care of our home? Is it not enough to simply improve the quality of life for plants, animals, and humans?
I urge you, as well as other global leaders, to set aside differences and bias, and unite to make a significant effort in preserving and protecting our planet. It's time to stop pointing fingers and actually make progress.
You won't be able to turn a blind eye forever.
Sincerely,
A young adult who wants to see the world (and for there to be a world to see)
