British Government Found Guilty of Ignoring the Rules They Set

A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. - John Maxwell

During the height of the pandemic, the Government told the British people to isolate themselves in their homes. We weren't allowed to mix households or see anyone else. Rightly so, I had no problems following the rules. They saved lives.

My own beloved Grandma passed away from Covid in a care home. We couldn't see her or have a proper funeral. Two weeks ago, as a family, we got to scatter her ashes, a bittersweet moment. If there was a silver lining to her dying alone, it was that she had Alzheimer's. She didn't know us so didn't miss us at the end. At least that's what I tell myself.

We are one family out of hundreds that never got to say goodbye. My sister, a nurse, spent many a shift holding an iPad over a dying person so they could say their goodbyes in the only way they could.

I tell you this so you realise the gravity of what two prominent members of parliament did: the Prime Minister and Chancellor.

The Birthday Party

During the lockdown, many of us celebrated birthdays. I celebrated two; they were special but quiet. Our Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, celebrated his birthday. With a party at his house for family, friends and colleagues.

When this first came to the public attention, there was an outcry. How could the PM have a party whilst we were following the rules. Boris, during question time, denied this, stating he had been following lockdown rules as it was a working meeting. He had not broken any laws.

Okay, the excuse is sketchy, he found a loophole, so many of the public gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Last week Mr Johnson and his Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, were handed fines for breaking Covid rules for the illegal birthday party. The fine of a massive £50 will clearly teach them a lesson. The metropolitan police, after a thorough investigation, stated they had both broken the law. The birthday party was just that a party.

Leadership Morals of a Lemming

It is impossible to know how many people were at the party as the police refuse to announce the names of those not in higher positions. However, the feeling is that the party was a good size and many people broke the rules they set.

If the manager of your company broke the rules you had to adhere to, would you expect them to be sacked? I ask this question because both of the guilty men have refused to resign from their posts.

If they don't feel they should resign after being found guilty of a crime. Shouldn't their moral standards trigger their conscience? I fear both have neither morals nor a conscience.

Leaders are meant to lead from the front and set a good example; these two are woefully missing this quality.

The other main concern of every citizen in Britain should be we have a Prime Minister and Chancellor who lied in parliament about the incident. Many Prime Ministers lie but never has one been so blatantly exposed in a lie before. Many step down when they are discovered in a lie, not this spoilt public schoolboy.

These men need to be forced from power. Instead, we have a government that has lied, broken its own rules, and destroyed the country. They are voting for tax rises; protection for big companies whilst people are freezing and starving in their homes. They have proved over the last six weeks that they are not fit to serve the British people. Sadly there is little we can do.

Incidentally, Boris has become the first Prime Minister charged with an offence whilst in office. So maybe he should have a party to celebrate.
