New Measures Introduced To Tackle Covid 19

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has set out a raft of new measures due to the increasing number of cases of people with Covid 19 in the country. He began by setting out all the changes that the government had put in place using things such as social distancing measures and hand washing to try and reduce the reproduction rate of the virus. Now due to the fact that cases are beginning to increase again, more measures have to be put in place to avoid the country going in to a second full scale lock down.

One of the main changes set out in the speech was legislation to ensure that all pubs, bars and restaurants close early to ensure that too many people aren't in the same area at once. They will also only have to serve people at their tables and not at a bar to avoid too many people congregating in the same area of a room or building at once. This will help ensure social distancing measures and help reduce the virus reproduction rate. All businesses that are not Covid secure will have to close to ensure that people remain in clean, sterile areas where they are less likely to accidentally contract the virus.

The use of face coverings will have to increase to avoid people contracting or spreading the virus through droplets when they cough or sneeze. This is one of the main ways the virus is spread so by ensuring everyone wears a face mask, the public will be being protected from catching it or spreading it to other people through droplets that they will produce when they cough, sneeze etc.

People are being requested to work from home again if they can to avoid the amount of social contact they have with other people. This will help stop the virus transferring from person to person through contact or droplets. When ever you do have to go out, you should ensure that you always maintain the correct social distancing measures from other people to avoid spreading the virus.

If people have to go out in groups, they should ensure that they only go out in groups of six whilst all the time maintaining the correct social distancing measures to avoid accidentally transferring the virus to other people they may come in to contact with.

He also stated that it is not simply a case of locking up the vulnerable and elderly to protect them as if this was done and other people were free to go outside, the virus would inevitably find it's way to people who are vulnerable and elderly in much greater numbers.

He also stated that he wasn't trying to infringe anyone's liberties or freedoms, just trying to take action now to reduce the number of people contracting and developing symptoms of the virus.

If the virus runs out of control now, it would mean that the NHS would be overwhelmed and there would be less staff or facilities to fight diseases such as cancer etc. If there was another national lock down, that would threaten the livelihoods of all the people through out the country.

“If we were forced into a new national lock down, that would threaten not just jobs and livelihoods but the loving human contact on which we all depend.

It would mean renewed loneliness and confinement for the elderly and vulnerable, and ultimately it would threaten once again the education of our children. We must do all we can to avoid going down that road again.

if people don't follow the rules we have set out, then we must reserve the right to go further.”

That's according to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
