Americans Are Sick and Tired of "Thoughts and Prayers"

Our patience has been wearing thin and enough is enough

It's been a while since I've written a story on Vocal. I thought I'd talk about something that continues to infuriate me and probably it does for you as well. I'm seething in anger and Americans are tired of what I'm about to discuss. You're probably aware of the recent shooting that occurred at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, which is west of San Antonio, where 21 people were killed (19 children and two teachers). It's the deadliest school shooting in Texas history.

Sandy Hook, Parkland, and now Robb Elementary. How many lives are going to be taken away from their families and friends until politicians take a firm stand on gun control? I'm not saying that guns should be taken away from everyone. It's not a realistic or feasible solution. Everyone has a constitutional right to own guns. The issue I have with most of these politicians is that every time a massive shooting happens, they always want to offer their "thoughts and prayers" to the families of the victims who have lived or have been slain. News flash: we don't want them, so keep those to yourselves. We want real action and change, but politicians on both sides are too busy bickering over an issue that has yet to be addressed. They have yet to find any common ground on gun control, and because of their unwillingness to work together, these shootings will keep happening. Families of this recent tragedy are hurting and grieving the loss of their loved ones. People are simply tired of the BS from these politicians. The constant failed promises and they're more concerned about their own reputations than keeping schools safe.

I'm a Texas native and my heart goes out to those families in Uvalde. In October 2021, there was a shooting at Mansfield Timberview High School in Arlington, which is where I graduated from in 2007. Four people were injured and the cause of it was a fight took place in a classroom before shots were fired. I grew up in Arlington and that tragedy hit close to me. The decision for the National Rifle Association to recently hold their convention in Houston has received swift backlash, because it took place three days after the recent school shooting that occurred in Uvalde. To me, it was inappropriate for them to do. They claim they couldn't get out of their contract. Honestly, they could've postponed the event to a later date. No child in America should experience something so horrific or their lives being in danger by a deranged shooters. Traumatic events like the one that happened recently are something that these children and parents will never get over. It'll stick with them for the rest of their lives. Instead of thoughts and prayers, all politicians need to set aside their egos and come up with a solution to keep schools in this country a safe environment. Thoughts and prayers won't solve anything and neither will finger pointing at one another if more lives continue to be lost from gun violence. Whether you're a Democrat or Republican, we can all agree that something's got to change. Without any action, deaths from gun violence will continue to increase at a rapid pace. I support everyone's right to exercise the 2nd Amendment and protect themselves. We're tired of having to go through this nightmare over and over again. I try my best to avoid talking about gun control, because it was never in my vernacular to do so. However, in this situation, I felt like I had to give my two cents on this issue.

With that being said, I would like to hear from you. What are your thoughts about politicians fighting over gun control?
