Breonna Taylor and Kenneth Walker

I will never forget Breonna Taylor or Kenneth Walker.

I live in an apartment with my boyfriend and as a Black Woman, I am scared. I am scared every time I hear an unexpected loud knock. I am scared that even though we have never committed a crime we could be murdered in our home by the people that are paid to protect us.

Breonna Taylor and her boyfriend were not treated like humans in their home.

Kenneth Walker stated, " I'm scared".

The police yelled, “ keep walking backward or we will send the dog”.

They broke into her house

March 13th, 2020

It started with a beautiful young couple sleeping in their home. They heard knocks at the door and were abruptly woken out of her sleep. They yelled at the door multiple times and they heard no response.

Kenneth Walker, her boyfriend, grabbed his legal gun and they walked into the hallway frightened.

On the other side of the door, multiple officer's were outside Breonna Taylor's door. They banged on the door. They did not say anything or answer the people yelling inside.

When the intruders kicked the door off the hinges chaos began.

The only light was the light from the apartment hallway and a glimmer from her TV.

According to the Police officers account, Kenneth Walker fired one bullet that allegedly hit the police officer's leg. After that, the bullets began flying from the police officers. There were 22 rounds blindly shot by police officers as they stood at the edge of there Breonna Taylor's apartment

The bullets broke through the wall and hit other apartments nearby. The detective ran around the corner and let off six bullets through the patio window after hearing an overwhelming amount of shots.

The police officers fled and did not enter the house after they let off a lot of bullets. They instead called the ambulance for the officer shot in the leg.

Meanwhile, Walker, a licensed gun owner with non-existent criminal records, called 911 hysterically pleading for help as his girlfriend laid silent on the ground of her hallway.

He noticed Breonna was in awful condition after the bullets stopped in the darkness. He called his Mom, the police, and then Breonna’s mom. He heard people saying come outside and he went outside in hopes the police were there to help.

To his dismay, They had him walk backward with a pit bull barking at him. They were yelling inhumane remarks. There is live footage of an officer asking " have you been shot". He said no and they replied, " that's unfortunate". In the video, Kenneth Walker looks terrified and the officer's behavior is disgusting. They did not care about anyone's safety only theirs.

They arrested him and showed no sympathy for his girlfriend that was dead on her apartment floor.

It is hard to know how long Breonna Taylor was in the house dead because that was the police's last priority.

The SWAT team went into the home and checked the place for drugs while Breonna Taylor’s body was on the floor. There is live footage of them walking in and barely paying her any mind.

They stated “ Let's go She’s done” after they checked the home and no drugs were found or retrieved.

The neighbors had bullet holes in their apartments and they were scared for themselves and their children.

The people paid to protect us took no regard for anyone but themselves in this case.

Breonna Taylor & Kenneth Walker

Breonna Taylor was fatally shot by Cosgrove according to her lawyer, her boyfriend, neighbors, and relatives.

Kenneth Walker and Breonna Taylor were in a relationship. They were in love and best friends according to Kenneth Walker and family and friends.

Kenneth Walker and Breonna Taylor went to bed after a day of dates and they spent their night watching Freedom Writers. Only one of them made it to the night.

Breonna Taylor was an award-winning EMT. She worked two hospital jobs as an essential worker. She was a daughter, a sister, and a girlfriend.

Neither one of them had a criminal record and the person they were looking for had already been arrested and did not live there.

Kenneth Walker was arrested that night and charged with attempted murder on a police officer. They felt like he should not have shot at anyone.

Even though he did shoot one shot, it was not proven that Kenneth Walker bullet had shot Mattingly. His charges were dropped and he can never be charged for it ever again.

Kenneth was not able to go to his funeral. He was not told that she was dead until he saw it from his prison cell. He was never able to say goodbye.

The facts of the ”case”

He states in his interviews that had no idea that the police were the ones who shot his girlfriend.

In 2020, there had been three different investigations regarding the beautiful Breonna Taylor. In all of the investigations, justice was not given.

Officer Joshua Jaynes was able to get a no-knock warrant for the address because he claimed the US Postmaster said that Breonna Taylor was receiving illegal packages.

The US Postmaster later testified that he never verified those claims.

The warrant was for a man they believed she had been involved with. They thought he was receiving drugs. He had been arrested earlier that day and for some reason the police officers that were present were unaware.

The SWAT team was unaware that they were issuing a no-knock search warrant that day.

One police officer was charged with endangering a neighbor. Two officers were given administrative reassignment.

They were not charged with the murder of Breonna Taylor.

Breonna Taylor never got the justice that she deserved. Murder is murder. I do not understand how Kenneth Walker was at fault for shooting someone who entered his home that did not announce.

I do not understand why they were able to go to Breonna Taylor's home after the guy they were looking for was already arrested.

I do not understand why they did not do their job. Their job is to protect and serve. They did not deescalate the situation and they shot an unnecessary amount of shots in the dark.

Six months after her death. Her family was given 12 million dollars after they won a wrongful-death lawsuit.

Walker and Taylor’s family continuously fights for justice and they would rather have their family back than any money in the world.

Kenneth Walker states that the only thing he wants is for Breonna Taylor to be alive. Since that option was taken from him, he would like us to say her name.

Writing about this horrifying true crime was a huge challenge for me. The videos are brutal and the whole situation is a nightmare. It was difficult to fight back tears and internalize anger. I am disappointed, hurt, and devastated that this happened to someone.

I stuck through it because I know Breonna Taylor deserves her story to be told.

I think about Walker and Taylor's family a lot. I hope they find peace and I hope they are okay.
