Unfortunately, today the world is facing a terribly deadly pandemic. This very serious and fatal COVID-19 virus, has essentialy exposed the world to yet another deadly virus. A seemingly silent (to those privileged not to be directly affected) although equally devastating plauge. The Pandemic of America’s Systemic Racism, presenting with a case of long untreated white privilege. This disease is just as deadly yet likely even more devastating due to its ability to transform from generation to generation. Fast-moving, it unsuspectingly becomes integrated into our everyday society. Essentially becoming business as usual or even the status quo. This ability to transform has effectively ingrained itself ever so deeply into the very fiber of American society.

Just as COVID-19 can be unknowingly passed on; one can be a host of systemic racism with no obvious symptoms inevitably spreading the virus. History tells us that crucial problems are resolved when there is a cohesive acknowledgment of the problem. The next step, is a collective agreement to actively reach a solution while upholding the value of ALL humanity and promoting the preservation of life. Hence the adage, necessity is the mother of all inventions.

A career is a chosen profession. Doctors, Judges, police officers, military personel, and teachers, ALL must be held to higher expectaions and standerds. Everyone is born on earth is innately responsible for the preservation of humanity. We are ALL of our brothers keeper. We ALL share a horrific past that we must face. We would be foolish to let this hold our children, grand chidren, or the future of our nation hostage. We need ALL be willing to consistantly seek the truth, proceed with a daily self moral inventory, acknowledge responsibility, and commit to effect change. Only then COLLECTIVLY WE CAN BE the catalyst that provides the truth to POWER and cure for this awful curse on AMERICA.

Self portrait by Blair B. “Love and freedom”

Six things you can do daily during this time of social distancing and desperation.

1.Serious about self reflecting ....who do you believe you are? What are the core principles you believe that you stand for.? Thoroughly examine yourself, write it down you’ll need later.

2.Pen every situation you ever witnessed or have been privy to that skin color played a role (however big or small). Write it down get it out of your brain it can be toxic.

3.Be an investigative learner again. Forget everything you think you learned after kindergarten. Do your home work research facts consider the source. You have access to the internet be objective and unafraid to ask questions. Be empathetic think of how you’d react if you felt wronged.

4.Speak up when you hear of or see others not morally In the right. Remind people of the importance showing respect to all People’s inalienable rights.

5.Dont allow anyone to sway you into a negative space always refer back to the first three steps.

6. It’s okay (highly recommended) to take a break from all media outlets! Rest your mind, body, and spirit.
