What Would Happen If You Bought $100 of Bitcoin Every Month For a Year?

Here’s how much you’d have after a year

By James RenoufPublished 2 years ago 4 min read

In November 2017, I made my first bitcoin purchase. It was a mania that I couldn't quite grasp. I recall having lunch with a group of 8–10 people and discussing Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Litecoin.

I had no notion how anything worked, but I recall studying the pricing charts.

By November, the price of one Bitcoin had risen from roughly $1,000 at the start of 2017 to over $10,000. Ethereum had similar increases, rising from $10 per token in January to $400 per coin in November. The price of Litecoin has risen from $4 to $70 per coin.

I didn't have a lot of spare cash at the time, and I didn't know much about crypto, so I bought about $50 worth of Ethereum and $25 worth of Litecoin. Bitcoin appeared to be too pricey to me.

I forgot I had it after a month.

I discovered I had created a Coinbase account six months ago and worked out how to get back in. From the $75 I put in three and a half years ago, I had roughly $120.

If I had continued to invest in 2018, 2019, and 2020, I may have had a lot more. But I don't want to become bogged down in coulda, woulda, and shoulda scenarios.

I'd rather concentrate on the future and wise investments.

Because cryptocurrency is still more volatile than equities and bonds, the best thing you can do is diversify your holdings and let them alone. My acquaintance earns a lot of money day trading Bitcoin, but they also spend the majority of their time learning and making informed trades.

I would not advise investing in anything you are unfamiliar with.

Before you open your wallet, spend 15-20 hours researching about crypto, the Blockchain, and Bitcoin.

I wanted to see how much money you'd have if you invested $100 in Bitcoin every month for a year. On the 1st, you'll pay $50, and on the 15th, you'll pay $50.

Because the price of Bitcoin fluctuates every day, this will not be a precise figure, but rather an accurate approximation. I got these rates from Coinbase, and I'll include the $2 cost for buying Bitcoin with cash that Coinbase charges.
