Is Phone Crypto the Future?

by Landry Oliver 7 months ago in alt coins

New crypto lets you mine from the convenience of your cellphone.

Since the creation of Bitcoin 12 years ago, the world has revolutionized the way that we view cryptocurrencies. Initially starting out as a worthless currency, the current value of a single bitcoin hovers around fifty thousand dollars. Investors continue to try to stake their claims in bitcoin in hopes that it will continue to soar higher and higher. Following along with bitcoin, several other cryptocurrencies have risen to fame, notably Ethereum, Dogecoin, and Tether. Every week, new cryptocurrencies are formed, as techies race to create the next big currency. It’s no wonder after all, Satoshi Nakamoto, the inventor of Bitcoin is rumored to have over $34B USD worth of bitcoin stashed away.

Each cryptocurrency has to work quite hard to differentiate itself in a very wide field. Some currencies, such as Bitcoin, can be “mined” by computers solving complex problems. In order to mine Bitcoin, one requires a highly advanced and specialized computer, and even then will be competing against other very advanced computers. Some cryptocurrencies seek to differentiate themselves by ensuring a level playing field when it comes to mining, to avoid users who will simply buy a very advanced computer and dominate the mining. Other currencies focus on security, speed, and usability.

A new field has begun to emerge in the past few years - Phone Crypto. To put it simply, some apps now offer the ability to mine cryptocurrency on your phone. Rather than using the computing power of the phone, these apps simply require a daily check in to continue mining. They don’t use up the phone power, and every phone has the same ability to mine. Users love that they can begin staking their claim in something that will eventually (hopefully) soar and make them millionaires. Let’s take a look at some of the pros and cons of phone crypto.

PROS:

Little to no cost to the user

Easy to mine, require only a few moments per day

Available to a very wide audience

Contain an element of fun

CONS:

Worth very little (as of now)

Typically not listed on an exchange

Not available to cash out/withdraw to other wallets

Often don’t have a cap on how many coins can be mined

For some users, the pros far outweigh the cons. At the worst, they waste a few seconds every day and earn back nothing. At the best, they end up with a small fortune, generated at little cost to them. Let’s take a look at some of the best known Phone Cryptos.

Midoin

This is one of my favorite phone cryptos. Unlike many other cryptocurrencies, Midoin has a maximum of 26 Million “Midoin” to be mined, ensuring that the value of each coin will not be lost to inflation. Simply log in once per day to continue mining. Midoin offers a marketplace of users that buy and sell items with Midoin, as well as exchanging Midoin for cash or other currencies.

Bee Network

One of the fastest growing Phone Cryptos, Bee.com lets users mine at a rate of 0.5 BEE/hour. They have added 3 million users in the past month, for a total of 10 million users. They plan to create a marketplace once they reach between 10 million and 100 million users. Starting with 500,000,000 BEE to be mined, over 230,000,000 BEE have already been mined.

Pi Network

Started in 2019, Pi Network is one of the most well known Phone Cryptos. There is no cap on how many Pi can be mined, but as time passes, less and less Pi can be mined by each user each day. Pi is preparing to be launched on a Mainnet, which means it will soon be available to trade.

Spotter

Unlike the previously listed cryptos, Spotter’s mining sessions only last one hour. You can log in every hour (notifications are available if necessary) and start a new mining session. Spotter was started in late 2020, which means you still have a shot at being one of the first users (and reaping the rewards as such).
