How I got Whitelisted for a super rare NFT

Eleven months ago I published an article entitled Till Death We Do Art featuring a famous LA-based artist named Mcflyy. In the article, I talked about Mcflyy's unique style of blending 90s anime sauce with current-gen aesthetics. This style of harkening back to the past is what brought him his fame in the art community and led him to work with big names like Chris Brown, Meg Thee Stallion, and even the NBA! But just like any real artist, your art must grow and draw upon the future. Mcflyy does just that by releasing his latest work in NFTs.

NFTs. You've probably seen/heard about it many times by now. Or maybe not at all. It's a subject that is both popular and elusive. I won't go into exactly what it is here, but it's more or less digital art bought with Ethereum cryptocurrency with a chance of the said art appreciating to double, triple, and in some cases, ten times the original value.

On December 4th, 2021, Mcflyy brought his talents to the NFT world, releasing his Quantum Genesis collection!

The Quantum Genisis project was a smashing success among fans, selling out in a little bit over a month. Priced at 0.03 Ethereum (120 USD), some fans have seen a return on investment topping out at 1.05 eth (2500 USD)!

This left fans begging for more. More NFTs. More art! Mcflyy answers back with an even more exclusive drop called MetaMorphMania!

Mcflyy answers the demands with a lack thereof, teasing and leaking new NFT designs that resemble the heroes of old. Power Rangers! With unique color schemes and Mcflyy's art style, fans are going wild! Unfortunately this time not everyone will get their hands on one. This time the art will be scarce, limited, and extremely rare. Only 150 unique Morphs will be dropped. That's less than half of the original Quantum Genisis project. So, how do you get your hands on one of these promising NFTs? A piece that is sure to bring a return on investment. With thousands of fans glued to their screens watching every move of this project, how can one hope to mint one? The answer is simple... Who wants it more?

To gain whitelist status, a 100% guaranteed spot to purchase a single morph (that's right. One per customer), you have to be invited to a Discord chatroom moderated by four different admins working on the project and the artist Mcflyy himself.

Once invited into the chat, you'll find a multitude of places to interact. There's gaming, sports, anime suggestions, meme sharing, and a place to show off your art and impress people! But the meat of the chat is the weekly competitions. These challenges usually come down to who's the most creative. Challenges like designing your own NFT, ten-second trivia involving artist and pop culture, and the one that scored me my whitelist, TikTok videos!

On January 19th, 2022, an announcement was made for the next challenge. Who can make the most creative TikTok video pertaining to the MetaMorph project? I stewed over this as I brainstormed and bounced ideas around for hours. After all, I'm in a chat with over three thousand people. Many of which were talented artists. I had to dig deep in my bag and pull out something I have never seen before in the chat. Then it hit me like an extra in a kung-fu movie... Stop Motion!

To stand out from the many talented artists dwelling in the Discord, I had to learn a new skill. After a day at YouTube University, I'd learned the bones of stop motion and would then test my patience and creativity. It took about fifteen hours collectively. Coupled with some appropriate music ( Power Rangers theme song) and some sound effects, I was finally done and ready to lay myself bare before the art council.

It was a hit! They loved it! So much so that I created another. My user name, Morphn' Time had been recognized and graced with both praise and the highly sought-after whitelist status! I would now join the ranks of deserving artists in a secret chatroom for whitelisters.

It had been a long two months of competing, chatting, and keeping up with all the art on display. But I'm better for it! I got to meet some truly talented people, learn a new skill, and be a part of the future as it unfolds right before our eyes. Mcflyy is truly a master engineer by bringing us all together. His style and creativity are here to stay, so is his impact on the community.
