Selecting a replacement watch strap allows you to alter the appearance of your wristwatch. However, finding a strap that fits your budget and watch accessory requirements can be a challenge. To make the best purchase, tips on how to choose a watchstrap are essential.

Check out your current watch strap

Examine how your current strap is attached to the watch face. Some are connected to the face by screws or pins, while others are joined by a spring bar. Although watch straps are usually removable, you need to examine how the current one is connected to purchase the right one. Some watch brands will need the expertise of a designer while others are easily detachable.

Determine gender

Although some straps work for both female and male watches, others are meant for either of the sexes. Men often have watch straps that are thick and chunky, which might not be appropriate for a fragile, feminine watch face. Women’s watch bands, on the other hand, are often more elegant and thin, which do not work well with male watch faces. Watchbands are mostly sized in differently depending on gender. Even though there is no fast and hard rule, concentrating on the watch’s gender assists you in choosing a compatible watch strap.

Check the correct size

Depending on the manufacturer and size, the majority of watch straps come in standard band length. To determine where your wrist fits within the standard sizes, measure your wrist’s diameter at the wrist bone using a soft measuring tape. Add to that measurement between 0.5 and 1.5 inches depending on your desired fit. This allows you to get the right wrist size. Additionally, select a strap that gives you not less than 0.5 to 1.5 inches over the right wrist size for adjustments in future. Normally, most bands are accompanied with standard size labels of large, medium and small.

Research on the different types of straps

Watchbands vary depending on the style and material. Determine which strap is right based on lifestyle and fashion preference. Watchbands come in various materials including metal, plastic, fabric and leather. Some are designed to hang freely like a bracelet. Others are made to fit comfortably to the wrist. Additionally, several bands have removable links that enable you to adjust its size. They also come in various thicknesses and a wide range of colours. To select the best type of watch that fits your lifestyle, consider when and how you are going to wear it.

Consider different band clasps

In addition to researching the various types of watch straps available, you must also examine the different kinds of strap clasps available. The most popular ones include buckles and butterfly clasps. Although watches having butterfly clasps are in most cases replaceable, buckles are added into the style and type of a watch band. How to replace your watch strap

Replacing your watch strap allows you to change your style, as well as keep a favourite watch that is no longer wearable. If you have a favourite watch that has a broken watchband, you can easily and quickly replace that band and put your watch back on your wrist where it belongs.

  1. The first thing that you will need to do is to lay your watch on a table or other solid surface.
  2. It is best to first put down a soft cloth, so you can be sure to protect the crystal while you are working.
  3. Next, you will have to locate the connecting pins for your watch band. Using a small precision screwdriver or jewellery tool, depress the pin, which is spring-loaded, from the band.
  4. This will release the band from your watch. Be sure that you place the spring pin carefully on the cloth so as not to lose it.
  5. Next, you will need to repeat this process on the other side of your watch band to completely remove the old band.

Now that you have the old band removed, it is time to replace it with your new band. Simply, put the new band into place and slide the spring pins into the end where it attaches to the watch case. Slip one side of the spring pin into the hole in the watch case. Using your screwdriver or jewelers tool, depress the other end of the spring pin and place it into the pinhole on the opposite side of the band. It should click into place when placed correctly. Do this on the other side of your watch band, and you are finished. You now have an attractive new watchband to give your old watch a completely new look.

Generally, purchasing a new watch band is an easy way of giving a watch a makeover. It also helps in keeping the watch face functional when the current strap is broken.
