Before reading this article, make sure you are in the right place. You should first read, How to Determine Your Season, to make sure you are indeed a summer. Once you have confirmed you have summer coloring, continue reading to learn which colors are the best for you to wear when it comes to clothing, makeup, and accessories.

First, let's review the physical traits of summers. This will help you better understand why certain tones and shades bring out your best features, and why you should stay away from other colors that might not be flattering.

Summers have skin that is cool with blue/pink undertones. They have light ashy brown, pearly gray or ashy blonde hair, with blue, green, or gray colored eyes. Eyes sometimes have white or silver flecks in them. There are no brown-eyed summers.

Since summer coloring is light, it has a delicate quality. There are no dark-skinned 0r dark-haired summers. Summer hair colors are more gray than brown and more muted than clear.

The best clothing colors for summers

Much like their coloring, summers look best in shades that are light and muted (with a few exceptions). The summer palette is built off of gray/blue tones.

Neutrals that work great for summers include soft white, charcoal, and pewter. Non-neutrals include powder pink/rose, soft teal, mint, and powder blue. Summers should never wear any shade of orange.

Because summers have light coloring, they should avoid colors that can drown them out, especially black. Summers can wear darker hues like raspberry and violet, but the darkest color they should wear is light navy.

What about prints?

When selecting prints, make sure that the dominant colors in the pieces are ones from the summer color palette - those with gray undertones that are not too dark or bright. There may be one or more hue that is not a summer shade but as long as the primary colors are from the summer palette, that's what is important.

The best jewelry and accessory colors for summers

When it comes to colors of accessories that look best for summers, keep in mind that accessories include pieces like scarves, hats, watches, and handbags. The colors that flatter summers with clothing are the same colors that summers should use to accessorize.

In addition to the standard colors in the summer palette, summers should stick to rose gold and silver tones for all accessories. This applies to watches, metal accents on pieces of clothing such as buttons, belt buckles, and purse embellishments.

Summers should stick to the same rules for jewelry as well. Warm tones like gold, bronze, and copper are definite no-nos.

The best makeup colors for summers

To bring out the best in a summer, makeup colors should be delicate and not too overpowering. If a summer wears makeup that is too dark, their natural features will fade into the background and make them appear more pale and unhealthy looking.

Summer makeup shades should all have silver or white undertones, including any metallic products or makeup with shimmer.
