How Auricle Piercing and Helix Piercing Are Similar

An auricle piercing is just an another name for a helix piercing. The only difference is that it's specifically placed midway along the outmost edge of the ear, about halfway up across from the tragus.

Piercings are wonderful as always but with different kinds of piercings around, almost located in the same place, it can be confusing to tell one from the other. Especially the difference between auricle piercing and helix piercing is slightly confusing for people often. Both almost look stunning but they are slightly different from the other in terms of just their locations and yet are almost similar.

The auricle piercing is done within a small space between the outer fold or helix and the earlobe. Helix is a location where the piercing is done on the upper cartilage of the ear. Ideally, there are several different types of helix piercings-

Different Types of Helix Piercings

  • Standard helix piercing: It is done on the outer and upper part of the cartilage.
  • Forward helix piercing: Right above the tragus lies the location where one can make the forward helix piercing.
  • Double or triple helix piercing: If you have the piercings done in the same site a bit here and there, it is known as the double or triple helix piercings.

Except for the location, an auricle piercing is not much different from a helix piercing. The auricle piercings always leave a lot of space for creative earrings. Apart from the popular cartilage hoops, you can even try conch pins, barbells, and even flat back studs among others to decorate your auricle piercings.

Whereas for your helix piercings, you could use spike granulated clickers, eternity rings, row pave rings, and threaded earrings for a change.

The same goes for the amount of pain one encounters when undergoing a helix or auricle piercings. The pain level might differ for these but if you are taking a proper care of it than you would certainly not face any difficutly for the same. Do consult a professional if you face any swelling in the pierced part for a long time. Aftercare is the most essential point to be considered after you get your piercing done. Consult a professional for the same and read about the piercing care as well.

Piercing Pain Comparision

Helix piercings are more painful compared to auricle piercings. The auricle cartilage is thin so it hurts lesser than the other areas. Even though there are no nerve endings mostly helix piercings can take almost 3 to 9 months to heal. An auricle piercing might take less time and almost more than a month to heal at times. But then compared to other piercings, both helix and auricle piercing pain very less compared to other piercings.

If you are not very experimental yet, you want to adorn a piercing and one that is quite eye-catchy then you can try the helix or auricle piercing for yourself.

Therefore, when it comes to paying for the piercings, you will pay slightly less for the auricle piercings than for the helix piercings. For an auricle piercing, you need to pay somewhere between $30 to $50 and for a helix piercing, it can cost you somewhere between $50 to $75.

Even though not much different, yet, different they can both cast different looks upon us.

A cartilage piercing mostly looks great for long faces, and a helix does wonders to a round or diamond shaped face.

For a square face, both kinds of piercings look good.

A pear-shaped or a heart-shaped face cannot do so well with the helix or auricle piercing but can look extremely fabulous with other piercing types.

But, yes, you can always try a helix or auricle piercing and who knows it might just be the best piece of jewelry ever. Do share your experience about your piercing story in the comment section below.
