Entry No. 8

Stephanie's Shoe Diaries

By Stephanie Van OrmanPublished 3 months ago 3 min read

This is a simple pair of black high heels. They're from Le Chateau. The inside is really faded, but that's where they're from. I thrifted them for $6. Aside from the logo being worn away, they are in great shape. The inside lining is unbroken, and the tread is strong.

So, I had this great idea. I was going to glue some trim on them and make a unique pair of shoes. I went to Fabricland and chose that trim. They were downsizing and having a massive sale, so I got it pretty cheap.

Now, I have already driven myself crazy wondering how I should put that trim on.

One part of me wants to put it in a straight line from the top of the heel to the bottom of the heel, and then fix a little bow to the top. Except if I do that, my back will always be turned to the person who sees them. I have shoes with exciting backs, and if anyone ever notices them, they don't comment.

Another idea is to put them in a straight line across the toe. I think that would be super cute, but you see how much of that trim I bought? That idea would take up 20cm when I have over a metre. I'm gonna have to go make some more stuff out of it. It's kind of rough. Every idea I have for making other accessories out of it makes my skin itch.

I could use it as real trim and put it all the way around. That was the reason I bought that trim to begin with, but I fear that I will hate that option more than the other two after the deed is done.

You know what? I don't know how anyone gets a tattoo. How does anyone commit themselves to just one image being on their skin for them to see day after day? I can't even commit to putting trim on a pair of shoes that I bought specifically to trim! I did not need these shoes. I bought them because I wanted to try an experiment.

Except, they look really good just the way they are. They have a really pretty shape for an ordinary pair of black high heels, and there are no blemishes that I need to cover up.

I keep having little conversations with myself about them. I already have funeral shoes, and they mean business. If I were going to a funeral tomorrow, I have a pair of shoes all lined up. I wouldn't want to wear anything else. Those are already tainted with funeral emotions, so they can carry a bit more.

What do I wear with them? Honestly, I want to wear a short skirt with them. Whenever I wear really fancy shoes, I like the skirt to be short enough that no one has to strain to see what I've got on my feet. When I say 'a short skirt', I mean midi or knee-length. Anything other than a maxi is a short skirt as far as I'm concerned. You know what skin does? That's right. It jiggles. It doesn't matter if you're skinny or big: you still jiggle, and I believe in keeping my jiggling thighs to myself. No short skirts. I like looking like a lady. I like being called ma'am. And I like having someone look at me like I'm someone they need to take seriously.

So, I haven't done anything to these elegant black high heels... Yet. If I ever do something to them, I'll have to write another diary entry about them. It'll be like Entry No. 8-2. Won't that be thrilling? If I ever get over my crippling fear of glue, and the point of no return.
