Casual outfits are a wardrobe staple that we can’t get enough of. They are easy to pair and comfortable to wear. For some, they are an expression of their personal style, when no one is defining what your dress code should be.

It’s easy to get caught up in this sort of freedom and consequently cease to feel the need to put any effort into your style. We do understand that being familiar with all of the style nuances can be a bit overwhelming. And what a great place to start with than what you already have or what you can easily find.

A little thought and effort on how you wear your casual clothes is a surefire way to look exceptional everywhere you go. This article will guide you on how to transform any basic piece of clothing to make you look the best you ever have.

1. Tuck or Tie Your T-shirt

T-shirts are considered the most casual attire of all time. We all love them especially when they come with cute or inspiring messages that resonate with your personality. When picking a message for your T-shirt, character plays a big role.

As such, most people choose tees with different messages based on something they are passionate about or something that comes off as a statement. For inspiring quotes, an I can do all things through Christ t-shirt might just be that statement you need to spruce up your outfit.

The T-shirt may feel boxy especially if it’s a size bigger. Tucking it in is the easiest option when it comes to switching up your T-shirt game. The main reason you want to do this is to visually create a waistline.

Tucking in your tee shirt draws the eye up to your waist rather than leaving your body visually as one long line. This tip helps elevate your look to chic new heights no matter how big or small the T-shirt really is. It also allows you to break those pesky cliches and wear your most formal skirts or pants to some of the most casual outings.

Another alternative is partially tying your T-shirt. Rolling or tying it into a small knot that rests either on the side or at the front of your torso, provides more depth to your outfit, adding more appeal than when it just hangs loose. This also adds dimension to the overall outfit and gives a sense of edginess to your style.

2. Spice Up Your Little Black Dress(LBD)

If you do not have an LBD, as it’s commonly known, you are doing yourself a great disservice. It’s a staple because it is iconic, versatile, and timeless.

You can easily take it from casual to sophisticated with just a few touch-ups. For a monochromatic look, a simple but neat hairstyle, high-heeled shiny black shoes, and a large letter bag worn with the small black dress form an incredible combo. And to make it even more eye-catching, you can add some simple gold jewelry.

If you are craving color, change the color of your bag, or shoes and voila! – you have an entirely different look. If you wish to accent your personality, add a classic leather jacket to achieve a bit of edginess.

3. Choosing your Leggings

Leggings are quite flexible and most people end up treating them as jeans. Since they reveal much more than other types of bottoms, they can easily end up as a fashion mishap. Therefore, they act best as supportive or foundational pieces.

Wear leggings with longer tops and tunics or short dresses. If you happen to own a shorter dress that you have pushed to the back of your wardrobe, you could always try it out with leggings before you decide to get rid of it. Pair full-length leggings with boots and for shorter length leggings pair them with sandals.

For work out leggings, opt for high waisted ones as they give full belly support, ensuring maximum comfort. High waisted leggings also look perfect with crop tops and longline sports bras.

4. Embracing Loungewear

With months in isolation, it meant that we had to replace our once-favorite closets of shirts, polos, and suits, with more friendly loungewear and casual options such as sweatpants and pajamas.

And, although lockdown restrictions are starting to ease all over the world, we’ve become used to the new normal and don’t want to let go of this comfort.

If you are thinking of keeping these outfits after the meetings, business trips, dates, and social activities resume, then you are in luck. You can lean on neutrals such as a pair of grey or dark track bottoms, with a boxy blazer and a white tank. When neutrals are combined, they give an instant feeling of being refined and put together.

To style up your look, even more, mix up several shoes — put on a pair of sneakers during daytime and at night try out a pair of boots.

5. Toss On a Scarf

Scarves are super versatile pieces that will spice up your look instantly. Just by stylishly wrapping a colorful scarf around your neck, you can add an oomph to an otherwise boring look.

Not only are they worn around our necks, but you can also wear them as a Bandeau top or tube top by tying it securely, or tying it as a headband or bandana.

But, if donning a scarf isn’t your thing, simply tying it around your handbags’ handles, will do the trick. This is a creative and easy way to take your accessory game to the next level.

6. Tap into the Power of Classics

The black blazer is well known for being quite versatile. You can easily wear it with almost any type of shirt, right from classic white, red, and blue colors, to bright patterns and prints.

In fact, a black blazer goes with absolutely anything. Whether you want to mix it with a dress, shorts, skirt, slacks or even denim overalls, you’ll still look great. That’s right, this casual outfit is ideal both for social day outings, as well as office setups.

If your blazer comes with thoughtful inner linings, or you are wearing a statement watch, roll up the sleeves to reveal the design. Cuffing your sleeves can make a jacket you typically only wear for work, more laid back and trendy and is perfect for the weekend or going out after work!
