Inspiration and imitation is one of the biggest parts of fashion. From being young and trying to dress like your favorite pop star to wearing the craziest thing and starting a new trend. These days it may be a meme or a retweet, but celebrities are always inspiring us on the red carpet whether they are dressing to the theme of the Met Gala or about to receive a career changing award. The red carpet is the place where we see celebrities express themselves as they smolder at the paparazzi. We see these looks and they inspire us because that's what the world of fabrics and couture does. Fashion can't help but be copied and innovated and that's why not all of the looks on the red carpet are completely original and instead paying tribute to another celebrity and their style.

Not even in Fashion, but in art in general some of the best work is inspired by someone else's or a rendition of another piece of art. One of the best examples to show how important inspiration and copying is in the music industry where rappers have created an whole album with samples. Lana Del Ray's cover of Sublime's "Doin Time," is amazing and her spin on the song doesn't take away from Sublime. In this day and age we often forget about the people who came before us and it's nice when we can pay tribute to them.

I've rounded up some of the best celebrity looks where the inspiration was clear and done perfectly. Also I know the queen of copying other fashionistas is Kim Kardashian, but I will not be mentioning her. I'm focusing on melanin queens in this piece, and as much as Kim Kardashian gets tanned she is not black. I will give her her flowers though because she has pulled off some great looks that were inspired by celebrities specifically her Armenian icon and great singer Cher.

Ciara at 2019 Billboard awards

I know I already talked about both Ciara and Janet Jackson, but I had to bring up this look. For Ciara's billboard performance where she sang "Thinking' Bout You," she wore a pinstriped pantsuit like Janet Jackson in her 1989 music video for "Alright." Not only did her look channel Janet, but attitude and overall presence on stage did to. This has to be one of my favorite outfits because I want that pantsuit!
