The dark and creepy trends I'd love to see!

Black nails, grim makeup, and lace clothes are back from the grave!

I recently watched a rerun of the "Ricki Lake" show on Youtube. The unwilling guest of this talk show was described as a "strange" teenage boy, who walked out for the audience in a mysterious cloud of clothing. Since this show was set in the 90's, a reinvention of goth fashion was just beginning to come out of the shadows.

Many teens at the time were being influenced by celebrities, such as Marilyn Manson or Rob Zombie, leaning towards wild and truly awesome looks. During the show, Ricki and the boy's father heavily questioned him about his "crazy" appearance. He had on elaborate black clothing pieces, rings, chains, and so forth. Basically, he mastered all the elements any goth could dream of wearing. Unfortunately, his family nor the audience approved of this style.

The goth niche wasn't something everyone loved at the time, yet it became widely popular for many youth. Ultimately, wearing gothic clothes like this actually transformed into a timeless essence of fashion!

From black lipsticks and heavy eyeliner, to chains and studded belts, the image of goth was cool. Goth represented a rebellious stance against societal norms, trends and the ordinary. This subculture took items that looked outdated, such as pieces from the Victorian era, and turned them into vampish accessories! The trademarks of 90's goth looks relied heavily on stark black clothing pieces, looking more like a funeral attendee from the 1800's mixed with rock music in the physical form!

No, I'm not making fun of this. Goth is INSANE! I love the corsets, the layers, and the black attire. Everything appeared to be fresh out of a graveyard, just like you'd expect!

Dark & Daring for 2021

By taking classic materials from 90's looks, such as satin and lace, it is possible to reimagine 90's goth for modern trend-setting!

While the gothic style is still more of a quiet trend, it has become more recognized on platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok. I have noticed a handful of goth trends sprouting up in places I'd least expect that scream 90's. Many people have posted outfit inspiration with corsets, baggy black cargo pants, dark makeup, and fishnet tights. Having these pieces are staples in bringing the 90's gothic charm back in full circle.

Personally, seeing those silver cross earrings, rings with chains, and a lace sleeved. tops is what happens to be catching my eye right now! Overall, a myriad of gothic style is flooding into the modern hemisphere again!

Where to Shop? 💀

1. Zone Blanche- Etsy Small Business

The most interesting and fabulous small clothing business I have come across on Etsy! Many tops include loops, straps, and gothic designs to die for!

2. Ghoulish Girls

One of my favorite dresses from this shop is long, flowy, and black velvet! It reminds me of Morticia Addams. Having a classic dress that looks vintage, yet can be modernized, is a great way to bring the goth 90's back!

3. Demonias

This shop has all the boots you'll ever need to string together a perfect goth look! Most of the selection includes high platform, chunky boots with a lot of buckles or studded extras. Definitely a must for bringing back this 90's aesthetic!
