Hippo and Lion

The lion's prey is mainly some large hoofed animals, such as hornbills, zebras, gazelles, African wild buffalo, and so on, giraffes, elephants, and hippopotamus super-large animals, are not the lion's regular prey, only in the prey more scarce season, the lion will risk to these unconventional prey down.

And as lions hunt more and more of these large prey, their corresponding means of hunting will become more and more efficient, such as male lions hunting for subadult hippopotami, with only three moves, and the hippopotamus can be hunted and killed.

Although lions are better at running felines, and not slow, they will try to reduce physical exertion before the pursuit, first lurking, waiting for the hippo to enter their ambush circle. Just see the lion lying prone with the help of tall grass to hide, the hippopotamus did not find the presence of predators.

Then the lion quickly rushed out and pounced directly on the hippopotamus, jumped on its back, and the hippopotamus nibbled. The hippo's flexibility is poor, for the lion's attack, it is no way.

Then the lion again, the hippopotamus down, aimed at the hippopotamus's weak abdomen, and throat a bite, and finally, the hunt was successful.

Many people wonder, if the hippopotamus is one of the wild animals that kill the largest number of humans, it has a huge size, and huge teeth, even the crocodile is not in the eye, why meet the lion, it seems so weak?

From the process of the lion's single kill hippo, we can find that the hippo in the encounter with the lion attacked, has almost no ability to resist. This is related to the characteristics of hippos themselves, they are omnivorous freshwater species, in the water is the main field, once on shore, physical strength will be consumed very quickly, and flexibility has become very poor.

Successful hunting

In the event of a lion attack, the hippopotamus would like nothing more than to return to the water as soon as possible, and once its retreat is cut off by the lion, the hippopotamus is in danger.

The hippo's daily life can not be separated from the water, most of the time is spent in the water. It is a "sensitive muscle", the fierce sun during the day, it is easy to burn the hippo's skin, so they tend to hide in the water, at night, only to come ashore to feed.

Because of their strong dependence on water, hippos cannot survive when they leave the water, so they have a strong sense of territory in the water, and many of them fight over territory.

Crocodiles are also an animal that lives in the water, and their range overlaps a lot with that of hippos. Hippos sometimes treat crocodiles as intruders and thus drive them away to harm them.

Hippo

The most powerful and scary move of crocodiles is the "death roll", but there is nothing you can do when you meet the huge hippopotamus.

Because of the huge size of hippos, it is difficult for crocodiles to find a place to put their mouths, so the "death roll" cannot be implemented naturally, and crocodiles lose their advantage over hippos.

On the contrary, the hippopotamus, with its huge size, can trample the crocodile to death with its hooves alone, not to mention its bloody mouth and huge teeth, which can cause penetrating injuries to the crocodile.

In addition, the hippo's teeth are widely spaced, unless it bites a larger object, the teeth can play damage while biting a smaller object, the mand ay is directly stuck in the gap between the teeth, thus causing little damage. Plus on land, the clumsy hippopotamus is difficult to compare with the flexible lion, naturally, it is not so easy to bite the lion.

Of course, for the lion, the size of the hippopotamus is still too large, so they are dealing with the large hippopotamus, stealing from the hyena, will be bitten into serious injuries, and eventually bleeding to death.

To sum up on two reasons: the shore is not the hippo's home turf, both territorial awareness and flexibility, have become very poor, it is difficult to compare with the lion; the hippo's teeth look horrible, unless directly bite the lion's head or body, otherwise it is less threatening, although the hippo is very large, there is no giraffe like the long legs, can not step on the lion.

On the contrary, as long as the lion gently and slowly hunts, eventually, the hippo will become the lion's food because of excessive injuries.
