What Pets Would Like Which Holidays?

Bring your pet on a break they're sure to enjoy

It’s the start of the new year, so as soon as you’re back in work your mind might already wonder to what you could be doing when you jet off on your holidays, probably sometime in the summer. You’d be bringing out your sunglasses from the back of the drawer, pulling out those swimming shorts or costume from the back of the drawer and you’ll be looking for your passport that you’ve lost again. However, one thing we don’t take on holiday with us, especially if we’re jetting away, are our pets. So thinking hypothetically, which pets would prefer which types of holiday?

Cats and a City Break

Whilst they do like to go on adventures on their own, they don’t tend to go very far and they always come back home of their own accord. A city break is a great holiday for those who don’t own a car or can’t drive, there is a lot in a relatively small space and there tend to be good transport links too. And whilst cats are adventurous fellows, they can also quite enjoy their home comforts and a bit of a cat nap, which is what you can do if you book a plush hotel in your city of choice. And there are plenty of cities to choose from. If you want to stay in the UK, there are a host of culturally rich places you could visit, from Edinburgh to Bath, London to Manchester and Cardiff to Brighton. There are plenty abroad and close to your doorstep too, with Amsterdam and Paris only a relative stone’s throw away. So in theory, you could bring your cat if you find pet-friendly accommodation, and if you were thinking of bringing your pet on holiday, take a look at this.

Dogs and an Adventure Holiday

They’re aren’t many pets you can own that love the outdoors more than a dog does. So it’s apt that an adventure holiday would be something a dog would probably like to do. And there are a huge range of different options out there that constitute an ‘adventure’ holiday. It can be as simple as a walking holiday (and we all know how much dogs like their walks) or it can be something like white water rafting (where if you fall in the river you can do a doggy paddle to the shore). But if you’re a thrill seeker then maybe you’d look to do some rock climbing, zip lining or bungee jumping. And what’s a proper adventure without travelling the world whilst doing all this high energy activities? Well just be thankful that you can catch a plane and don’t have to pretend to be a different species, just like the infamous Great Dane Scooby Doo had to do one time.

Rabbits or Guinea Pigs and Interrailing

Country hopping. I’ve you’ve ever had a rabbit or guinea pig before you know how jumpy and energetic they can be as animals, hopping from pillar to post. If you keep one of them indoors, you know how quickly and efficiently they can travel from one place to another, and that in a way is similar to interrailing. If you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, or simply don’t know many young people, then you might not know what interrailing is. One ticket can allow you to travel on trains all across Europe, going through a lot of major cities like Budapest, Bucharest and Brussels and countries like Greece, Austria, France and Italy. If it sounds like something you might want to do, take a look at these recommended routes.

Sloths and an All Inclusive Resort

Right, this one is a bit of a stretch, as there is next to no chance anyone is keeping a sloth as a pet. But if you did (and some would probably want to, let’s face it), then this is the no brainer option to go for for your slow pet, it’s a match made in heaven. Once the sloth has found the sun lounger they won’t move for a long, long time and it’s likely you won’t move much too, if only to sit up to be handed a cocktail from the waiter or to turn the page of that Sally Rooney novel. Also, everything you need is within a close walking distance, which is good because if you’re only on holiday for a week or so, then your sloth won’t get very far.

Or a tortoise. Tortoises are pets and they’re slow. That would’ve been probably a better example, but everyone loves sloths right?
