Without touching on the obvious house owned pets, here's a list of my top 10 animals, and why they are the best! These are my top adorable, unique, and interesting picks! With a few fun facts about each of them!
10. Axolotl
These cuties definitely make the Top 10 list! Just look at its adorable little smile! These guys make an excellent alternative to fish in an aquarium. I could watch them for hours swimming around! Their name comes from the Aztec word for "water dog"! Wild Axolotls can only be found in Mexico, and can live up to 15 years. Although you can keep these guys as pets, they are listed as critically endangered! So if you get one, please take good care of it!
9. Puffin
These social birds don't get nearly enough mentions! They love being social and will mimic their new found friends behaviors! Not to mention they look like strait baddies. Penguins who?
8. Skunk
Skunks don't get nearly enough love for how stinking cute they are! (Pun intended). Did you know you can remove their "stink glands" and keep them as pets? These critters are typically very playful, and fun to watch waddling around!
7. Owl
Majestic, beautiful, a little bit creepy. Owls are serious predators and look like they could be an alien species. Don't let all the fluff and feathers fool you, they are 90% legs. Monday Tuesday Wednesday, every day is leg day with these beauties.
6. Burmese Pythons
Who wouldn't love coming face to face with a giant snake? A Burmese Python can grow up to 26 feet and weigh over 200 lbs! (although the average is closer to 10 feet in length). They live around 20 years and make excellent low maintenance pets!
5. Tegu
You ever want to own a large reptile that 'might' not eat you? These bad boys can grow up to 5 feet long! Tegus come in black/white, red, gold, or blue (depending on the species) A must have pet if you're a big fan of Jurassic Park.
4. Octopus
Now this is a creature I can watch all day! Highly intelligent and graceful in the water, these critters love to play and get into mischief. If you keep one as a pet make sure to keep a lock on the lid as they are known for being escape artists! It'd be weird waking up at 2am to find one of these guys sitting in your toilet.
3. Fennec Fox
These adorable foxes are becoming more and more popular as pets! They typically live in the desert and eat insects. Looks like a cat alternative to me! These cuties are nocturnal so crate train them early on!
2. Blue Glaucus
Yes, this is a REAL animal. Also known as a blue dragon, blue angel, or a blue sea slug. Unfortunately you can't keep them as pets (I checked). This is because they are packing a strong venom! If you see them drifting at the surface give them space to avoid a trip to the hospital
1. Red Panda
This is the cutest animal to have ever existed, hands down, we can fight about it. They are about the size of a house cat, and were named "pandas" before the black and white pandas were ever named. They eat mostly bamboo, but also eat small mammals, eggs, and flowers. They live about 15 years on average. Unfortunately they aren't domesticated, and they are not permitted to be sold or owned as pets since they are endangered (yes I checked these, too). As cute as they are, they do bite!
That's all!
