The Tiniest Bunny of Ever

And Not Just Any Kind Of Kid

Mr Marlon Bundo himself, and his human.

It has been a long time, that I have wished to write a children’s story. There are two young men in this world that know first hand the style with which I write, and they are forever an inspiration. We would lay in their bunk beds when they were little, all akimbo, and they would shout topics at me. “Green Dragon! No! Red Dragon!” “Puppies!” “Pink Balloons!”. Invariably, they would not agree, and I would be gently forced by their plaintive sweet voices, to make up TWO bedtime stories. These were some of the best days of my entire life, and I am thankful for the experiences of storytelling, and childlike wonder. So, as I am unable to decide on a topic today, I will show you how I would weave a web of bedtime story fun, and dedicate these two stories to my two favourite little dudes.

Let us begin.

Mr. Marlon Bundo

The Tiniest Bunny of Ever

Mr Marlon Bundo was the tiniest of all the bunnies, ever. He had little tiny rabbit feet, and a little tiny rabbit nose. His nose would twitch all day, twitch twitch twitch. His most very favourite food was daisies. He thought they were both tasty and pretty, which was a double win in his humble opinion. He had four older brother bunnies, and they were all much much bigger than he. They didn’t pick on him though, and he thought that was very nice of them, being that they were so much bigger they probably could have if they wanted. They were nice bunny brothers indeed.

All five of them lived on a farm with many, many other animals. They were all bigger than Marlon too. His best friend was a human, and she would come visit him every day. Marlon liked to ride around on her shoulder, under the brim of her hat, so he could feel her heart beat, and catch a little shade on a sunny farm day.

The humans’ heartbeat sounded a lot like Marlons mother, and that made him feel happy. He liked the bump of her heart bass, just like music, he thought. Marlon loved music. Sometimes, he would try and get his bunny brothers to dance with him, but they just kept eating grass and looking at him like he was the craziest littlest bunny they had ever seen.

And maybe he was. Marlon wanted to grow up one day and be a Dancer. A break dancing bunny would be famous for sure, he told his bunny brothers. They didn’t pay any attention at all. Every morning, Marlon would escape the bunny rabbit cage, he was so tiny he slipped right through the bars! All the brothers would stare at him, a little jealous of his freedom.

Marlon would take his freedom to practice dancing in the forest. He would hop hop hop, down across the field, and find himself a little shaded space with room to move. He would kick his little feet, drum up a rhythm, and get to dancing. It didn't take long, and Marlon grew to be quite the dancer. One day he decided he was going to go to Hollywood, and try out for Dancing With The Stars, that show his human loved to watch. He packed a little bag, threw it over his shoulder, and said goodbye to his bunny brothers. They thought Marlon was crazy, but they supported his dreams completely. Hugs all around, and Marlon slipped through the bars of the cage. Halfway across the field he stopped in his tracks. HIS HUMAN! He had forgotten to say goodbye!

Bouncing as fast as a tiny bunny ever could, he hopped back over to the garden, and there she was. He put one tiny paw on her leg, and she reached down to scritch his tiny head. “I love you Marlon Bundo, the tiniest bunny that ever there was” and he knew she understood and supported his dreams to be a star. Marlon twitched his little nose to tell her he loved her too, and off he went. Through the country, to the bus station in town, to head to Hollywood, to be a breakdancing star.

THE END

Now at this point, one of the kids would start to complain that I had not told their story, and I would have to explain that patience usually pays off, and the next story would commence. Let us continue...

Not Just Any Kind Of Kid

Once upon a time, not any time in particular, like bed time or lunch time, but just sometime, there was a kid. They were a smart kid, clever and funny, and they loved their lego like they loved their momma. Which was

A LOT.

You might expect me to tell you that this kid was a little boy, or maybe a little girl. But I won’t at all. This wasn’t just any kind of Kid. This was the amazing human kind. The kind of kid that didn’t fit into any box or any label.

THIS...was the most special kind of Kid.

One day, not any day in particular, like Saturday or Sunday, but just one day, this Kid went on an adventure. Lots of kids go on adventures, and lots of kids do lots of things on those adventures. But THIS kid went on a very different kind of adventure.

So, one day, not any day in particular, this kid, not just any kid, asked their mother if it might be time to visit the Grandparents. Of course it was, she replied. Of course it's ALWAYS time for family visits! Let’s go! And they hopped in the van and headed north to the city.

On their way, they passed through many valleys and hills, green rolling meadows on both sides of the road for miles and miles. They saw all kinds of farm animals in their fields and pens, goaties and cows and piggies and chickens.

Suddenly, a tiny bunny with a bag thrown over his shoulder ran across the road, almost getting hit by the van!! They stomped on the brakes and the bunny was safe! The very special, not just any kind of kid, jumped out of the van and ran around the side to see a very tiny bunny, sitting upright and looking at him.

“My name is Marlon Bundo, and I am trying to get to Hollywood, might you know how to get to the bus station?”

The very special, not just any kind of kid kneeled down and said

“Pleased to meet you Marlon, my mother and I are on our way to Hollywood right this minute! I am sure she will give you a ride with us!”

And they held out their hand for the very tiny bunny to hop into, and hop he did. Marlon was feeling very lucky, a very lucky bunny he was, to have found a ride directly to his destination! He didn’t know for sure, but he had an idea that riding the bus might not be too fun. He looked at his new friends and felt grateful, and excited. Down the road they went!

On past the rolling green meadows, and thru many valleys and hills. Soon enough tall sky riser buildings rose into the air, and with no time at all, they were in The Big City, Hollywood. The very special, not just any kind of kid had an idea for their new friend Marlon, and after they explained it, both their mother and Marlon agreed.

They drove the van down Hollywood Boulevard, and Marlon could see the stars in the pavement, with all the famous names. He saw one that looked a lot like his, but maybe with different spelling. They kept driving, and soon they came to a big stage. Marlon, the very special, not just any kind of kid, and their mother, walked up to a man in a suit, standing beside the stage. He winked, and gave them a wave to come on up to him, on the stage, in front of hundreds of people.

The very special, not just any kind of kid, set the very tiny bunny on the pavement.

“This is my dad, and he's gonna get you up on stage, so you can be a breakdancing star. We believe in you! You are most certainly a special bunny.”

Marlon hopped away, to be a big star for sure, and the very special, not just any kind of kid, looked at their mom, and knew they had just helped a dream come true. And helping animals, might be the nicest thing a human can do. What a lovely adventure indeed.

THE END

And now I ask you, dear reader, as I would ask the boys in their bunks, would you help take a talking and dancing bunny to hollywood to pursue their dreams? And if the answer is yes, do you see what I see? I see that kids can be and do anything they want, that working as a team is usually best, and that being kind might be the very best way to live. So each night, my time was spent imagining wild stories, with important messages to share, and I remember my time with those kids with great fondness. A little silliness, creativity, make believe, and life in general seems a little less bleak. Bedtime storytime is a beautiful way to look at life, through the eyes of a child, or maybe a bunny, indeed.
