Hi readers. Rosa here to tell the story of my kitty co-pets. The first kitty was Toby. Toby was a cute little grey kitten in a house with too many cute little kittens. One day she was out in the field eating bread crumbs when she caught a whiff of every kitties favorite smell; a cute boy had catnip, so she followed him. The boy led her to a house with a woman and an older boy. The youngest boy's name was Hilltop. His older brother is Mount Everest, and the woman is named Fortress, or maybe it's just Mom.

The human family fed Toby and gave her catnip and a little collar. Toby didn't like the collars. She always got her cat friends to help her take them off. Toby made a special friend named Mustafa. He was big and orange with white patches. Toby loved being in the house with the humans, but sometimes she just had to spend time with Mustafa. Toby began to get bigger.

On valentine's day, something special happened. Four kittens were born. The three healthiest ones were Ross Kelly and Junior. Ross was white with orange patches, kind of like me. Kelly and Junior had grey fur, just like Toby. The fourth kitten was weak and didn't make it. Toby spent time moving the kittens from place to place. The kittens were always getting into fights. Kelly was always ready to scratch anyone, no matter if there were humans, cats, or dogs.

As time went on, Toby got tired of giving the kittens milk. Kelly and Junior appreciated the cat food, but Ross still wanted his Mom's milk. One day toby got so mad Ross and Kelly ran away. They came back in a few days. Ross continued to pester Toby. Finally, Fortress decided that there were too many cats in the house, so she put an ad on Craigslist. A nice lady from Tarkington came and took Toby and Kelly to a new home. The new home had mice that Kelly enjoyed eliminating.

Ross and Junior stayed at the old house with the big bush for a while. Ross continued to be a trouble maker, and eventually, he ran off and never returned. Hilltop took good care of Junior, but Junior had congenital heart failure. For a while, the old house with the big bush was catless.

There was a store called Pet Value: they sometimes had stray cats in the windows. One of the cats was named Ebony; she was very charming and elegant. Ebony was tired of living at Pet Value. They fed her well, but there were no mice, and she could never go outside. She prayed that some nice family would take her in. She caught Hilltop's attention as the little family was walking past. The Keeper at a Pet Value said they needed to fill out an application to take Ebony home. They all thought it would be cool to have a sleek black feline in the house. Fortress was surprised at how long the application was. She wondered if the Pet Valu People would even approve of them. Hilltop and his family were not the only ones that noticed the adorable black kitty in the window.

Meanwhile, on the mean streets of Cleveland, OH, Luis was longing for a home. His mother had died shortly after he was born. When he was still a small kitten, the older woman he was living with passed away as well. He and the other cats were stuck in the stuffy old house for days until the woman's relatives finally released them. Some of the cats got into a big white van, but Luis was too smart for that. He survived on his own hunting field mice and foraging for leftover human food behind big buildings. Luis loved his independence. He hated being outside when it rained. Sometimes he took refuge on the porches of the various houses in the neighborhood. Luis learned that if he made a noise like a human baby, Humans would give him cans of tuna. On one of Luis's favorite streets, there was an empty field with a single house with a dog on one side and a two-family house on the other side. Luis didn't see the dog, so he decided to explore the field and see how many mice he could catch. Suddenly the quick brown dog jumped down from the back deck. Luis took refuge in the big bush in front of the two-family house.

It just so happens that the big bush in front of that two-family house is my favorite hiding spot. When Mount Everest looked under the bush to find me, he saw a kitty instead. Mount Everest grabbed the kitty and pulled him away from me. Hilltop grabbed me and put me back in my little house.

The humans didn't like Luis. They thought he wanted to eat me. This black cat was very vocal but not particularly charming. The cat at the pet store had been much more appealing. Fortress turned in the application the next day. I guess they thought this loud annoying cat would go away. I saw special in Luis. He wasn't trying to eat me. He wanted to be my friend. The cat stayed on the front porch all week. Fortress gave him cans of tuna and table scraps to eat periodically.

A rich family adopted Ebony. Hilltop, Mount Everest, and Fortress never saw her again. Mount Everest started putting my cage on the front porch sometimes, so I got to know Luis better. We talked about everything. I even convinced him to stop hunting bunnies. Eventually, the humans let Luis come inside the house. They got him his own little bed and a scratching post, and even a fake mouse. No longer did I have to carry the heavy burden of being the only pet in the house.
