King Louis in his prime.

The day of Friday has come again, and the young King Louis peruses his castle after his parents have gone out for an excursion across the city. This means that Louis will be left alone late into the evening, which brings him much satisfaction, but first he must be sure that they are truly gone. He prattles about searching every room, every nook and cranny, to ensure that he is not mistaken. He does this every time after they have left simply because of that one Friday he got too lazy and forgot. The Queen, his lovely (albeit terrifying) mum, was hiding away working in a room in the tallest tower. She bellowed in anger when she caught him laying about on the lounge like a lazy sloth. He vowed ever since then to never again get caught on the sofa milling about. Still, Louis maintains a small semblance of grace because at that time she only caught him during his pregame rest rather than the main event of the day. This slight inconvenience left Louis quite pleasantly smug because, despite receiving a strong tongue lashing, his primary agenda each Friday would still go on.

King Louis ashamed after being caught on the lounge.

King Louis was known across the neighborhood as the Party King. It was partially because of his name, but also because on his most lavish days the little King managed to throw the most slamming, yet surprisingly incognito, bashes for himself and all the other house pets in the neighborhood. Louis invited them all including: Meredith, the cutest corgi on the block, Roscoe, the pitbull from around the corner, and even Chewy, the loudest and most annoyingly shrill chihuahua (let it be mentioned that Chewy only manages an invite each week because his second cousin Taco is the best DJ in the culdesac).

Together, all the house pets gathered. Some entered from the side gate or down the ravine sloping up behind the house. However, only one special pup was allowed to risk entering from the front door, and that would be Bella. Bella is the newest member to the neighborhood, and the only other French Bulldog in the culdesac besides Louis. Despite Louis' ease with all the other ladies he still has a massive sore spot for the lovely little lady. She was the runt of her litter, but she makes up for it with her sassy poise, and as soon as King Louis laid his eyes on her he knew she was the puppy for him. Bella typically arrived on time to the last two ragers thrown, so Louis just knew he had to get all of his ducks in order, and fast, before she nudged her head through that front door.

King Louis spritzed himself with some fresh cologne, and chomped on a fresh pack of kibble to rid himself of his dog breath before hyping himself in the mirror. He had already laid out all the chew toys and dogs bones that his guests could enjoy for the day, and now he simply waited on Chewy to arrive with Taco so the music could be set up. King Louis was nervous because the last time he saw Bella he was just sure that they would sniff each others butts, or at least have a go pulling at either end of his favorite stuffed squirrel, but unfortunately she had gotten sick on her fill of milk-bones shortly after the party began. Louis couldn't blame her, she was still a puppy after all, but he couldn't help that he felt a bit mugged off after Meredith had ushered her swiftly out the front door, and back to the safety of her own home. Fortunately, guests were starting to arrive to distract him. Louis could hear the splash of the pool after his best bud Jackson barreled down the ravine. He was running out of time, he thought. And where the hell was Chewy and Taco?! He was ready to howl in frustration before he heard the doorbell ring. It must be Bella! King Louis barreled down the stairs to bark at the door for her to enter in a broad show of masculinity. The door slowly opened, and Louis sat in waiting to greet his favorite puppy with licks.

"Ahh-eeee," he heard as soon as the door opened, but instead of Bella stepping through it was Chewy followed by a massive crowd of chihuahua's who all went straight for the squeaky toys. Chewy knew that he was not supposed to enter through the front, but he still did it! And, where the hell was Taco? King Louis growled in frustration. Guess he would just have to turn the stereo up, so the neighbors could dance to something besides the sound of their crunching kibbles. More guests had arrived, and still no Bella. Louis paced in front of the door. Dogs were everywhere jumping on couches and chasing each other with toys, but Louis just could not crack on until he at least knew Bella was there.

Just as he was about to give up, the doorbell rang... It must be Bella! King Louis gave his best howl to greet as the door cracked open for another time. This time, standing coyly, was Bella in all her majestic beauty. Louis quickly gathered himself and hurried over to lick her ears in greeting. Bella licked back before being swooped away by Meredith in a tackle and cuddle. Louis stood back and watched as they excitedly jumped into the party festivities before following them slowly into the crowd of party goers. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Roscoe chased Chewy around the pool, which seemed to be entertainment for everyone watching. The ladies crowded around the water bowls in gossip while the rest of the boys jumped in and out of the pool to show off. Bella and the rest of the girls squealed after a large cannonball by Bowzer, the Saint Bernard, splashed onto them. Louis just knew he had to take his chance on Bella before it was too late.

The King ran quickly to his daybed and grabbed his stuffed squirrel in his mouth. With a slow trot he made his way over to Bella who caught his eye as he headed over. The girls stepped aside as she walked forward toward him, stopping just as he dropped the squirrel at the foot of her perfect paws. Louis nudged it over to her until she picked up one end. Louis could not believe they would finally get to play together! Just as he took the head of his squirrel into his mouth he heard it... The garage! His parents were back, and earlier than expected. Louis dropped the squirrel and started barking frantically. All the dogs had to get out, and get out now if Louis was going to keep his title as Party King. The dogs all scrambled. Many ran straight up the ravine, while some ran down the side of the house to the open gate. Louis didn't even get a chance to say bye to Bella because once he turned back around toward where she once stood both her, and his squirrel were nowhere to be found. He grunted before launching himself onto the floor rug to pretend to tear up the pillow that his mates had started on before the key in the garage door lock started to turn.

"Louis, what in the world! Bad boy, Louis, bad boy!" his mother, the Queen, yelled at him. He just knew he was going to get timeout for the mess, but at the moment he didn't care. He just wished he had a chance to finish his play with Bella, or at least that she didn't steal his favorite squirrel...

King Louis upset after his party.
