The German couple came across the kitten that gave him a hug, and stuck to it and did not let go.

Decisive adoption into a family of three

Severin and Nicole are a young couple from Germany, both of whom are avid travelers and adventure enthusiasts.

The couple has been living abroad for years, driving a van all over the European continent.

Usually, eat and live in the car.

But last year, when they passed through Croatia, the same two-person tour group unexpectedly added a new member...

One night last summer, Severin, and Nicole were walking through an abandoned apartment building in Croatia when they suddenly heard a faint meow from behind them...

When they turned around, a very small black kitten came running towards them.

It ran to their side and stopped, then jumped on top of Nicole.

The kitten first stopped on Nicole's leg, pawed at her, and then went into her arms and rubbed around, as if it would not leave.

Severin and Nicole looked around and found no sign of the mother cat, and the little black cat kept purring.

They decided to buy some food and water, but it was already dark and it took some effort to find a supermarket that was still open.

On the way to the supermarket to buy food, the cat was hanging on Nicole's body and refused to let go.

They could see it was hungry and before they could open the cat food package, it jumped on it and tried to eat the wrapper.

When it had had its fill, the couple took the kitten back to their van, where it obediently got into its blanket and snuggled close to them all night.

Severin recalls, "He fell asleep in Nicole's arms that night and felt so comfortable and safe."

"It was pouring rain and windy that night, so if we hadn't met him, I can't imagine how such a small cat would have survived."

The next day, the Severins returned to the area where the kitten had been found and saw no owner looking for it. They went back to the animal shelter and veterinary clinic to ask around and confirmed that the kitten had no home.

So Severin and Nicole decided to adopt the clingy cat and named it 'Maureen', which is Croatian for 'please'.

Once Maureen officially became a member of the family, it was a natural step to join their traveling party.

From then on he settled in the back of the van and followed the Severins around.

Once the trip began, the Severins were surprised to find that Maureen enjoyed traveling around with them on their adventures.

"He was happy to see new places and slept every time he rode in the van. The van is like a magical cave that takes him to a new place almost every day."

He excitedly climbs trees in the Greek countryside...

Forgetting to run wild on an Albanian beach...

Overlooking the view in Dubrovnik...

And making new cat friends in Turkey...

Outside the car, Maureen was having fun, but consciously inching away from the Severins.

Every time Maureen automatically kept up with them and followed closely behind them.

If he was tired of playing and needed a break, he would ride on their shoulders.

or putty on their hands.

Over the past few months, the kitten has traveled with the couple through eight countries.

He is happy to join his new "parents" on their adventures, jumping into bed each night for a cuddle and purring to sleep.

Maureen has become the couple's new alarm clock, waking up at 7 a.m. every morning and jumping on the bed.

Then he played with the potted plant in the car until it broke down...

After the curtains were lifted, Maureen would lie in front of the window and look out, sunbathe, and then lazily take a nap.

The Severins feel that the addition of Maureen has added a lot of fun and warmth to their life and journey: "Every day Maureen shows us his trust and love for us, and his appreciation for us taking him in."

"Maureen has changed our journey in many ways, and we are lucky that he has chosen us to be his life partner."

Stray kittens find homes, the Severins have new travel companions, and a "happy ending for man and cat" ~
