The sign read: "No public restrooms." It was the second to last day of our family vacation, which happened to unexpectantly double as our honeymoon. Just two weeks prior, we were standing on the altar of a small chapel, just eight days after we decided to get married, right now. Shotgun wedding and a honeymoon with the whole family - why not; unplanned and unexpected usually resulted in the best outcomes for us.
Amanda MarksPublished 2 years ago in PetlifeThings to Consider When Looking for the Right Pet For Your Family
When you decide to add a pet to your family, it shouldn't be taken lightly. It can be both exciting and scary at the same time! It is important for you to choose the right pet to complete your family. You need to make sure that you take the time to find the right pet, or you might not have a good experience. That being said, it does sound really difficult, though it doesn't have to be that way.

Think Taffy. Think sweet. Think sticky. Think candy and treats. Think the very opposite of all those conjurings and you will have a first insight into Taffy, the dog I loved who hated me. And the dog whose demise is scrawled in jagged letters across my memory. I loved him desperately and would have done anything for him but life, and what people had done to him – humans one would have thought responsible and caring – made him hate and mistrust me. I had Taffy as my pet dog between my ages of 8 and 15. And I have the scarred hands he left me to prove how very hard I tried to love him into fearing no longer.

Before I got my dog was a strange time in my life. It was a time when everything seemed to be moving past me at warp speed, blurred around the edges and blowing harshly in the wind. Everything seemed just a little scary. There were shadows in every corner and question marks at the end of everyone's statements.
Reasons to Adopt Your Next Pet!
Adding a new furry member to your family is a big decision. While many people believe that rescuing a dog is the way to go, just as many people go to breeders and pet shops when it is time to get their next dog.

It was early on the morning of April 23rd when the telephone rang. I was just getting ready to head out the door to do chores. My dear friend and neighbor wanted to know if I could help her out with a ‘situation’. She had just finished her morning check, in the lambing pen. Two of her ewes had delivered overnight, but there were 3 babies, and each ewe only wanted one. There was no way of knowing which one had twins.

It’s in his haunted eyes. When I drove to the city an hour away, the anticipation of meeting our new dog was filled with wavering trepidation. There were three sweet beagles available for adoption through the Beagle Rescue: all three cute as a button. They had their stories, their photos, their details pasted on the front page of the website like a dating site. Bo’s face was turned a little to the side, and I could just make out the speckles that identify him as a beagle. His backstory is what sealed the deal for me.

Back in 2012, it was a normal day in a high admission animal shelter where I worked in Maryland. We worked closely with other rescues, staff and volunteers to save the most animal lives we could. Due to the unimaginable amounts of animals we took in yearly, we sometimes had to make difficult decisions. It was no secret that I loved animals. We all did and that's what brought us all together, to adopt out every adoptable animal and never have to put any to sleep for space.

Jodie wasn’t your typical dog. She had to have been one of the unique dogs I’ve had to have owned that has ever lived. When I was around seven, my family and I went to the pound to find a forever friend after one that recently passed. We looked around, dog after dog in kennels until a small black Labrador puppy was yipping loudly, trying to get our attention. She had this look on her face saying, ‘I need you, I’ll be a good girl to my mother. My mother looked in her eyes, in love, at her and then at my dad, saying, ‘ Jim, I need her .’He had a look in his eyes, saying that he was instantly was attracted to this curious little dog too. My dad then replied, ‘Yes, Joyce. She needs us’.

When we had decided that taking on the responsibility of adding a new member to our humble household of 3 was sincerely feasible, we set off to adopt. Unlike the other cats in their cages, bright eyed and bushy tailed, there was one who was hiding underneath her blanket. Relating to that expression of introversion, we took an interest and tapped lightly on the cage, directing our voices to what lied beneath. What resulted was a small ginger kitty, approximately 3 months old, with a lovely golden coat and shining eyes. Popping her tiny head out from under the cover, she looked at us hopefully and it then took very little time to realize that she was the one to bring home.
My New Family
Ahhhh.. nothing beats a nice brisk walk around the neighborhood with my partner for life!! I hear the leash come out of the kitchen drawer and see it dangle from her hands. I rush over to let her know that I am super excited and ready to go! Bending down to hook it to my collar, I get a hug and kisses before we head to the front door. I try super hard to be patient for the door to open, but it sure is hard to do. I whimper a little and do my, “ hurry the hell” up dance. The big glass door begins to open and my left front paw helps to push it open faster. I love walks. Did I mention HOW MUCH I love walks? Wooohoooo we are outside!!! The sun is shining down on my brindled fur, as I feel a soft wind blow across my happy face. It doesn’t get better then this.

I was working at a zoo when a rusted out burgundy sedan pulled up to the back gate just as we were opening. The car door swung open and out of the back-seat leaped an all black lighting bolt of a puppy. The puppy ran through the gate into the zoo. The beat-up sedan took off, screeching its tires as it peeled away.
