At the beginning of this year, we had officially finished fundraising the 20 thousand dollars for my son Jaxon. We were supposed to visit Smartpups in August to meet the pup and the pup’s trainer working with my son Jaxon. The dog will be learning how to sniff out his diabetes low sugars and save his life from hypoglycaemia that can lead to serious health problems. Hypoglycaemia can cause seizures, unconsciousness, coma and even death. Due to Covid, we were unable to cross state borders due to lockdown, so we could not meet this pup; we then rescheduled for March 2022. The dog will either be a Labrador or a Golden Retriever breed. I’m not sure which puppy will be just yet as nobody picks the puppy they need to meet before a match is made.

Smartpups is an organisation that trains puppies to help special needs, medical needs children as well as people with PTSD. Our Puppy will be introduced by Jaxon’s side, be his friend and sniff out the low sugars. Low sugars can be very dangerous and even life-threatening; Jaxon went that down last year that he went unconscious, started to have seizures. I had to call 000 for some medical assistance. This was one of the scariest moments in my life. Having one of these puppy’s will not only save him from these moments but will be his best friend, someone he can count on.

Next year in early March, we will be meeting the Smartpups organisation and meet his pup that they will be training. Smartpups organisation is located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. They have been keeping us updated through this by sending us emails of the puppies, sending us updates on the kinds of food the puppies will be eating to grow big and strong. The food they recently told us the puppies would be eating is fresh and healthy, called Big Dog Raw Foods. We have been keeping everyone updated throughout this journey through my son’s Instagram called Smartpups for Jaxon. This pup will not only be a perfect working pup, but its surroundings will be their office.

To show you how an assistant dog can save a child's life, I have placed a YouTube video on how these diabetes assistant dogs can save a diabetics life. These dogs have not only saved a child’s life, but they have saved an adults life when they don't feel their sugar levels go low by barking, bopping their head and then grabbing some juice for their owner, some of these dogs were able even to grab the diabetic's glucose metre and give it to the diabetic along with turning on a light all to save the person with diabetes from a life-threatening situation.

Here is another video on how diabetes assistance dogs can help children and adults with recognising lows and highs in sugars. Hope these videos will help you understand how a diabetes assistant dog can help diabetics.

In the mean time we have been walking 100km to support JDRF in their research to find a cure for diabetes. JDRF is an organisation that helps juvenile’s through diabetes. So Far JDRF have had an amazing amount of people this year participating in the JDRF One Walk they have raised all up from all the participants over $800,000 which they have been keeping us updated through Social Media like Facebook and instagram. Please check out our link to our team fundraising page.

Please support our story and our time in getting my sons working pup. We will keep you all updated along the way and share all the photos and videos of how they both work.
