Cabbage Patch the Ragdoll Cat

Lets talk about Ragdoll Cats. These beautiful animals are among the younger breeds of felines. Developed in the 60's by Ann Baker a breeder from Riverside, California

Ann Baker chose cats that were large in size with long silky coats. gentle by nature and with real personalities. She named the breed Ragdoll after the little girls doll. The breed has a peculiar trait, they love to cuddle in the arms of their owners. Usually flopping into their lap. Hence the name Ragdoll.

Ragdolls love their owners with a passion, often following them around the house. Even meeting them at the front door when their owners return home. They respond to their name and often act like a dog chasing after toys thrown for them. They like involvement in any family activity and will play with children for hours. They are quick learners and easily pick up tricks. They are usually a well behaved breed. Easily taught toilet manners. They are very punctual in their eating habits, usually likes to eat at the same time every day. They love to lounge around often sleeping on your sofa or even your favorite chair.

A Ragdoll has medium length fur with a little undercoat. Thus matting and shedding is of little concern. They love grooming and will sit still and enjoy the experience.

There are many stories about Ragdolls and I have included one in particular in this tale.

I had this friend of mine, Fred was his name. He had a Ragdoll cat named Cabbage Patch named after the famous little girls doll. Now this Cabbage Patch was large, even for a Ragdoll he was large. But luckily he was a docile as a kitten. He was one of the long haired type yet his hair was very very long. It was a bit problem for Fred to keep him combed and dag free. Now Cabbage Patch had some very weird habits. He would go away during the day and not return till exactly 4pm. That was dinner time and he was so punctual it was uncanny. Then after he had his dinner he would rub himself up against Fred waiting for him to pick him up. The cat would then fall limp into his arms till Fred sat down to watch TV. As soon as the TV went on Cabbage Patch would sit up as if he was actually watching what was on the screen. He simple enjoyed TV.

Now it came to pass that Fred had to go out of town for a couple weeks. Not wanting to leave his cat alone he asked his next-door neighbor Nelly .If she would look after Ragdoll for the couple weeks while he was away. This was no problem for Nelly as she was very fond of Ragdoll herself.

Fred asked her to feed him at 4pm and turn on the TV till 9pm then let Cabbage Patch out till morning. The first few days was quite normal. Cabbage Patch would go through his normal routine except that he would have to sit and watch TV by himself. On the 4th day Cabbage Patch decided that he had enough of being alone. So he headed over to Nelly's place and sat on her lap to watch TV. Cabbage Patch was enjoying Nelly's Company and she his. By the time Fred got back Cabbage Patch had fallen into a routine with the Nelly, the same routine he had with Fred. The trouble started when Fred tried to take Cabbage Patch home. He would not go, it seems that Cabbage Patch had adopted Nelly as his new owner and Fred had lost his companion. To this day Cabbage Patch refuses to go back to Fred.

Talking about cats I have another cat tail to tell you

There was this Abyssinian cat his name was Cinnamon Faro ( the Phonetics are intentional ). Being a Cinnamon colored Abyssinian cat. his owner called him Faro. Why you may ask? Well he looked like the cats depicted in the Egyptian motifs hence the name Faro not Pharaoh. The main reason was his owner could not spell the word Pharaoh when registering him. Anyway Cinnamon Faro, well he was a very intelligent fellow, which is quite typical of his breed. Easy temperament, loves company though not to keen on lap sitting. A couple of minutes is well ok any longer and off he would jump. Abyssinian cats are a shorthaired breed and one of the worlds oldest know breeds. Anyway back to Cinnamon Faro. He was keen on a Persian cat named Milly who lived down the street. Every time she gave out a message Cinnamon Faro was the first to respond.

But her owner was not going to have any of it. He did not want a short haired Abyssinian cat mating with his purebred longhaired Persian. So every time Milly came on her owner would get his Bull Dog Bruiser to stand guard over her. This of course annoyed Cinnamon Faro no end. Well I told you that Abyssinian cats are very intelligent Cinnamon Faro was high on the list of Aby cat IQ's. So next time Milly was on heat Cinnamon Faro came up with a plan. He went rummaging through the trash of the restaurant near by until he found a nice big beef bone. Struggling he somehow managed to drag that big bone all the way to Milly's house. He then placed it out the back so Bruiser would see and smell it. The plan worked. Unfortunately for the owner of Milly. A while later Milly gave birth to 5 little cinnamon colored kittens with fluffy white collars and little white booties. Love always finds a way, even in the Feline world.
