Pup-princess, a Halloween Rabbit

As you can tell from the photo, this is clearly a dog who wants to be a rabbit princess. Or bunny princess. The weird thing is, it’s not a battle to get him in there, only out. He sees the pink and instantly wants it. I thought dogs were supposed to be colorblind, but obviously red and pink are the exceptions.

Needless to say, he wants to be spoiled with candy, meat, vegetables, and other treats like the pup-princess that he is. He was about 3 in these photos, which means the dress is about 12-15 years old. I know this because the dress was sewn by my aunt in a matching set – a large one (long gone) for me, and a smaller one for my younger sister. We were children at the time and I believe it had gotten misplaced into a moving box rather than placed for donation on one of our many moves over that timeframe. It is just slightly too large for him, and causes him to trip on the skirt. Obviously, it’s not ideal for the bathroom, but he only ever has it on for a short amount of time, or this outfit would be long gone.

There’s some other outfits he likes – a red sweater with blue pants that were mine when I was an infant. I have no idea how my sister gets these on him, but they make his butt look cute and poofy. He wears that outfit for going out in two feet of snow, which he likes to eat. Going out in the snow is very tiring for his tiny 15-pound body, and this makes him sleep soundly.

Sadly, no one really sees these outfits, or him. He’s not the world’s most sociable dog and sucks at being calm through approach. He’ll bark and scare children, but truthfully he just wants attention. That’s the problem with little dogs – when they exhibit these bad behaviors, they aren’t disciplined because they’re small.

Now that his back leg has been injured for 3 years after staying in lodging during a trip out of the country. We aren’t sure exactly how this happened – if he fell or otherwise. Regardless, he can’t support his weight so he mostly uses the other three to get around, and it’s hard to put him in an outfit like this one, which causes him to trip due to its length, and exacerbates the leg issue. Not sure what a good future outfit might be – perhaps a minion from Despicable Me, or a king. Emphasis on made for a dog, as outfits actually made for dogs tend to allow them to use their legs without hindrance.

I’d love to take him on walks or to a dog park, but due to his age and leg, he’s pretty content at home, close to family and food. He is horribly naughty, and has gotten into the Halloween bag to eat chocolate. That was a fast learning lesson for us as dog parents – no food within his reach, and particularly not chocolate.

The other wild thing about this dog is that he’s drunken coffee. I wasn’t there to witness it, but apparently this resulted in him running around the house without stopping for an hour, and pissing constantly.

These days, he gets into our soft spots and gets food all the time. It’s because he can’t get around to play with toys or wear any of the outfits he enjoys, including the pink princess dress. If he doesn’t look familiar, it’s because these photos were taken before I tried my hand at being his personal barber. That experiment went over well.
