What ice cream can you give a dog?

Since dogs cannot eat many of the typical ingredients of our ice creams, we must replace them with foods that they can eat, always avoiding those that could be harmful to them. With this in mind, there are numerous options for homemade ice cream for dogs, which can include ingredients such as:

  • Fruits: apple, watermelon, pear, or banana are fruits suitable for dogs and provide them with vitamins and minerals while hydrating them. Also remember that there are many fruits that dogs should not eat and that, therefore, it is not recommended to add them to their ice creams.
  • Shredded Meats – Dogs are carnivorous animals, so there is nothing better for them than a refreshing treat made from meat.
  • Vegetables: Carrot, peas, or pumpkin are widely used ingredients in canine ice creams. However, there are also many vegetables that dogs should not eat and therefore you should avoid.

If you are not sure what foods you can include when making ice cream for dogs, you can follow the following recipes that we recommend in a HOWTO.

Creamy banana ice cream

To make a banana frozen yogurt for canines, you just need a portion of a ready banana and a characteristic yogurt without sugar or lactose. If you do not want to give your dog extra fat, we also recommend that the yogurt be skimmed.

If you already have the ingredients, follow these steps:

1. Mix both ingredients in the blender glass and beat at high power.

2. Put the mixture in a container or in the yogurt container itself.

3. Put the container in the freezer for a minimum time of 3 – 4 hours, until you get the consistency of ice cream.

Rice milk and pear ice cream

The pear and rice ice cream for dogs is just as easy to make as the previous one, but even lighter. To make it, you'll need a cup of rice milk and half a pear (or a whole one if it's small).

Once you have the ingredients, follow these steps:

1. Peel and chop the peel, removing all the seeds and the central part, the hardest.

2. Put the clean pieces in the blender, add the rice milk, and mix.

3. Pour the prepared mixture into an ice cream mold or T-shirt.

4. Put the mold in the freezer and wait until your ice cube is ready.

chicken ice cream

Although it sounds strange to us, your pet will surely find chicken ice cream for dogs a delight. More than a treat, this ice cream is almost a complete meal and is perfect to offer on days when high temperatures can make you lose your appetite.

To make this homemade ice cream for dogs you will have to get: a small fillet of chicken breast, half a cup of vegetable broth, and some peas or a carrot (optional). Then follow these steps:

1. Cook the chicken breast along with some vegetables, such as carrots or peas. Do not add salt or pepper.

2. Remove the stock from the intensity and let it cool.

3. Crumble the breast and put the pieces in the blender glass. Add a couple of tablespoons of stock and, assuming that you need, a couple of bits of the bubbled carrot or peas.

4. Beat at high power.

5. Distribute the mixture in molds and put it in the freezer until the future dog ice cream solidifies.
