Cat eczema is a relatively common skin disease in cats, the main factors that cause this skin disease are: climate change, environmental factors, food factors, etc., and there will be pooper scoopers in the cat after bathing, usually do not pay attention to timely blow dry the cat's hair, this is one of the reasons why cats suffer from eczema. So how to treat cat eczema, and how to prevent it?

I. Overview of eczema in cats

Eczema is an inflammatory skin reaction caused by skin epidermal cells to allergens, and the saliva of fleas that live outside the cat's body is the allergen of cat eczema. Unclean skin, large amounts of dirt accumulation on the coat, overly humid cat living environment, various chemical stimuli, nutritional disorders, vitamin deficiencies, metabolic disorders, chronic kidney disease, endocrine dysfunction, etc. can all contribute to a decrease in the resistance of the cat's skin and lead to eczema disease. Cornular eczema is a common eczema that appears on the back of cats. Cats with eczema will become restless and have localized itchy skin, causing the affected cat to continuously rub and chew, resulting in localized skin thickening and fur loss. The affected surface skin is not flat and has papule-like elevations. Some surfaces may be moist or covered with a yellowish-brown scab. The duration of feline eczema varies, with some recovering quickly and others taking a long time, and it is also prone to recurrence. As the affected cat has no appetite, so it gradually becomes thin, walking weak and easily fatigued.

Second, the causes of eczema in cats

Cat eczema is mainly caused by various external stimuli, such as mechanical stimulation, insect bites, clean skin, cattery humidity, sweltering heat, sweat impregnation, etc., softening the cat skin stratum corneum, continuous friction, long-term exposure to the sun, application of stimulating drugs, and improper use of chemicals may lead to the formation of cat eczema.

III. Symptoms of cat eczema

The clinical manifestations of acute and chronic eczema in cats are divided into seven stages, namely erythema, papules, blisters, pustules, vesicles, crusts, flaking and other pathological processes. Eczema in cats is characterized by itching, restlessness, gnawing, weight loss, extensive hair loss and abrasions. Some cases of acute eczema skin surface moist or pus or ulcers and covered with yellowish-brown scabs, while chronic eczema is dominated by the loss of hair flakes.

IV. Treatment of eczema in cats

To treat cat eczema, the first thing to do is to eliminate allergies. The affected cat can be given oral or injectable promethazine hydrochloride, depending on the cat's 1mg/kg dose, or it can also be given orally or intramuscularly with diphenhydramine hydrochloride, 2.5 ~ 5mg each time.

After completing the desensitization, the affected cat's hair on the affected area is then cut off and thoroughly cleaned with 1 - 2% tannic acid solution or 3% boric acid solution, and then 3 - 5% gentian violet solution or 5% methylene blue solution or 2% silver nitrate solution is applied to the affected area. For cats with chronic eczema, they can be treated with zinc oxide ointment, which is also effective. Or you can also use chlorpheniramine maleate tablets, both ointment pairs are for cat eczema, itchy skin and other skin diseases, is a special drug for cats and dogs.

In addition, the owner must usually pay more attention to the cat's balanced diet and feed the cat some multivitamins to replenish the necessary vitamins and trace elements in the cat's body to enhance its body resistance.

Eczema in cats is not difficult to treat, but parents need to be patient and insist on medication for cats, do not fish for three days and sunbathe for two days, otherwise the cat's condition is easy to repeat and it will be difficult to get better. If the owner is usually busy, it is difficult to insist on medication for the cat, it is recommended that the cat be sent to the vet to let the vet treatment, so as not to delay the cat's condition it!
