How to Throw Your Dog an Epic Birthday Party

Your rescue pup is turning a year older?! Here's why and how you should celebrate your furry friend.

Be grateful that your dog is turning a year older! Spoil them while you can and love them hard. We got Wrigley, the cutie pictured above, as an 8 week old puppy and this was his first birthday with us! His birthday is exactly one day before mine so I love my Scorpio boy. Here are all the things we did to prepare and plan for my (not so little) puppy's first birthday party.

Step #1: Plan a day and invite all of your pup's neighborhood pals for a playdate at a nearby park!

Doesn't have to be fancy- your dog is just happy to be out and about. We had Wrigley's party at an empty elementary school right down the block from our house. We also had a lot of time on our hands because this was smack dab in the middle of quarantine so we thought to ourselves- why not make super cute paw-ty invitations?! This is not necessary but super fun. We made ours on Zazzle.com and I will link the one we used right here!

Since Wrigley is a Scorpio, his birthday is super close to Halloween so as an added bonus we told all of the dog owners to dress up their 4 legged friends. It was hilarious and definitely recommend having a fun theme like that.

Step #2: Order a dog-friendly cake or pup-cakes for your dog and their friends!

You can order custom made pet-friendly treats through many reputable companies. We ordered Wrigley's through Spotted Dog Bakery and loved it! They have all different kinds of cake toppers and designs to choose from- even portrait cakes made out of your dog's face!! Maybe we can do that for Wrigley's second birthday ;) Check out their Instagram here: @spotteddogbakery.

Step #3: DECOR DECOR DECOR.

We ordered the "Birthday Boy" bandana, the Happy Birthday sign, and the balloon letters that spell "woof" all through amazon- there are tons of different options. The blue "1" balloon I got from Party City for around $12 (you will need it to be blown up which is free and a weight to hold it down which is an additional cost depending on what kind of weight you want).

I had a customizable letterboard already and we just came up with some simple phrases to put on it! "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY MOTHER PUPPERS" was too good to pass up so we used that phrase. There are also banners on Amazon that say this phrase as well which would be hilarious and fun to add to any paw-ty.

Step #4: Party Favors!! AKA little treat bags that all of the fur friends can go home with! And toys for the dogs to play with!!

Some frisbees, squeaky toys, and tennis balls for all of his friend's to play with. What else could a dog ever need? It's a good idea to have these handy because sometimes dogs need to be redirected or take breaks from being social.

What we included in our goody bags:

  • a tennis ball 🎾 (dollar tree, people)
  • cute poop bags 💩 (again- use the dollar tree store!)
  • some healthy dog treats in a ziplock bag 🐕

Step #5: PLAY TIME BABY!

A reminder- stay hydrated, friends. Bring water and bowels for the doggos to replenish, bring treats for motivation, bring toys to redirect if there are some "disagreements" ;) Dog parties are perfect ways to socialize your pup and get some great exercise in! Good luck planning your epic dog party. They deserve it and so do you.

HERE'S TO MANY MORE YEARS WITH OUR PALS. STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY, DAWGS.
